One of the things they need to do (imo) is investing in other and different movements. The El Primero is a legend and the Elite is OK. But how many years are many of us screaming for a simple HANDWOUND movement. In a perfect world I would suggest the Cal 135.
A simple 3 hands classic watch with a Cal. 135 inside. Better finished than a El Primero but still affordable. The cal 135 doesn't have a as much different parts as the El Primero so it must be possible to give each piece inside the movement a better finishing ( beveling)
May be once in a while a limited edition, but a REAL LE and not the Range Rover / Cohiba / Rolling Stones crap. Remember the original Montre D’aéronef with caliber 5011K. THAT was a true LE.
It’s probably the only Zenith in a few decades that does sell well above list. I believe listprice was just under 10K euro, today if you find one for sale they will be around 15K euro.
Having a few references that are sought after and sell with a premium is good publicity for a brand and gives clients confidence
BTW, can somebody explain me why the most legendary Chrono movement (El Primero of course) in the world sells so bad? I mean the vintage market.
Look what happens with Rolex Daytona , Omega Speedmaster, Breguet XX, . All of these and many others ( including Heuer today) are sought after collectors pieces and fetch high prices. Those El Primero are still completely overlooked and damn cheap. A cool first edition 1987 De Luca can be found for a lousy 4K. They only made a few hundred first editions. Total production De Luca was only a few thousand.
The older El Primero (1969 - 1975) are still yours for 4 to 6 K EUR. That is a fraction of what it could / should be
Make a new model, a diver. 3 hands, NOT again a chronograph. A solid diver is missing in the collection.
And IF you want to make Limited editions don’t do it for cars ( Ferrari Panerai was a mistake, JLC Aston Martin is not necessary, …) Don’t do it for Cigars, what’s next ? The Marlborro El Primero? And don’t do it for rock bands.
I really don’t want that ugly Rolling Stones logo on my watch.
One of the most expensive Zenith ever sold was a pocket watch belonging to Mahatma Gandhi. I believe Kennedy also had a Zenith. Imo it would be better to be associated with these persons than with cigars or cars.
Zenith has a magnificent history, START USING IT!
LVMH is a very wealthy group, put some extra money in Zenith! They can take the risk
It’s not like a small manufacture like Pequignet that took too much risk developing their own movement. I can’t imagine Zenith can’t get extra funds from LVMH. Use it for a new movement (s) and better publicity.
One day it will be very succelful and give a good return
