Everywhere I go I see some click loving “expert” tell me this line is defective somehow??  Just wait and look at them. The reaction has been absurd.  You’d think this line was called the Patek Kardashian line based on the vitriol I’ve read.  If you’re going to get this worked up without holding them in your hand first you need to take to check yourself.

The simple 3 hand with date on bracelet would have been a better launch watch.

...where you live. The question, in a sense, depends on other factors 'first'. One thing we can 'bank on', timepieces with non-round cases may be appearing more often than 'modern' norms (past two or three decades). Is it the 1970s we saw a lot of non-round cases as fashionable?

I agree - people have every right to "their" opinion and have every right to voice it!

The 11:59 overreactions were insane. My favorite is each year when Rolex announces their new models, there are always people on rolexforums.com who act like it's the worst thing that has ever happened in their lives.

I mean, that's an incredible life, right there, if the new bezel color of a GMT is life ruining.

The super high expectations people had. Myself included did expect more than a square nautilus. Sorry. Do the watches look terrible, no, not at all! Actually, they look much better than expected given how horrible the fortune ad looked.

And I kinda changed my mind, especially the 5822 is quite nice. Great heft and the big date and dial work well. I do have rather large wrist and I probably buy a few other pateks instead but way better in person and I was definitely a hater when I saw the fortune magazine ad. No pics were all unfortunately.

...people have the right to be picky and demand excellence. This line is lazy. It's what you get when a billionaire owner thinks he is a watch designer, and everyone in the company says, "It looks great, boss!" As for looks being subjective, sure. But I don't have to drive the Pontiac Aztek or visit the showroom to think that it's ugly.

It’s lazy in terms of design work. I’ve also said it before about sheep mentality. I’m careful not to follow wherever the brands lead. I prefer to be independent. Also beauty lies in the eye of the beholder. Perfectly normal for me to prefer the nautilus over this or some other watch for that matter. Life will be too boring if we agree with everything people say. I’m sure part of the beauty in watch collecting lies in the diversification of our tastes and the difference in rigour when we collect. To those who say I need to see it in the flesh to truly understand it, well…I do have a rebuttal. I think I’ve had over two decades of experience in watch collecting. I might miss some of the nuances but I don’t think I’ll ever lose sight of the big picture. This watch is clearly a no to me in terms of design.

The launch of any watch - especially one that is similar to an existing iconic watch - is always very contentious.  Especially on the internet.  People have strong emotions.  Some people are invested - for example many of our members have the Nautilus watch themselves and may feel this watch steps on their toes a bit.  The green dial 5711 Nautilus was intended for very special Patek customers too.  And those customers may feel slightly surprised that this same shade of green is now offered in a more permanent offering.  This is the first time Patek Philippe has offered a new line of watches in about 25 years.  The last new line was launched as the 24 in 1999.  You can argue that the new round 24 pieces is a new line too - and that was only a few years ago.  

I’ll reserve my final judgment on the design until I can try the watch on my wrist.

However, the features of this new line are also crucial to me, particularly in terms of value for money.

As a matter of fact we’re discussing a new watch line from one of the world’s top manufacturers, released in 2024 and not in the last century.

In my (humble and very personal) opinion, they could have done more: the new Patek Philippe Cubitus in platinum uses corrector buttons that create holes in the case. The simpler versions use the Caliber 26 from 2019, and the platinum version is based on the nearly 50-year-old Caliber 240. The movements are not shaped, have a weak power reserve by today’s standards (45 or 48 hours) etc.

To wait so long hoping for something original and elegant from a top tier brand and be disappointed. I was disappointed by the design, the size of the case, the small round movement in a square case, lack of integrated crown for the complications (pushers required again) poor power reserve for these times, the nautilus dial and of course the price. So it’s not for me.
But of course it is just a watch, perhaps we have been spoiled by the wonderful watches over the years from Patek. Can’t expect them all to be perfect and for some the cubitus will be perfect and others will dislike. That’s fine by me. I have come to terms with much preferring Patek from 1940s to 00s. Happy to stick to vintage pieces! As always buy what you like and there is nothing wrong with giving your opinion especially if it’s constructive.

The Cubitus could be spearheading a resurgence in high end square integrated sports watches. History doesn't repeat itself, but it rhymes. Cartier Santos may be the original design, but Cartier is now more or less putting modest movements into the standard Santos. Would you be surprised to see a mechanical square Royal Oak or a square 222/Overseas within 2 - 3 years? They are likely already in development.
