I've only experienced the 997 GT3. Didn't get a chance to drive the 996 GT3.

The 997 GT3 was a little raw - easy to understand to drive the car at 7/10ths, but not easy to understand to drive the car at 9/10ths or more. I suppose that can be said about many cars, but I'd say the 997 GT3 was especially difficult. The 997 GT3 had a wonderful steering feel - one I miss a lot. Nice brake pedal communication. If it had a double wishbone suspension, it'd be a near perfect 911.
But after driving the Huracan - yes - I know - not the same generation of car, as the Huracan is much more modern. The Lamborghini Huracan, objectively, is where it's at. The car is emotional. The steering is a little bland - not a lot of feel even in the RWD version - and almost no steering feel in the AWD version. It's impossible to see out of the car. But the brakes are good (pedal travel is a lot longer than the Porsche's short travel which I prefer), the transmission is good, the engine is good, it's mid-engine, and it's got double wishbones (a big deal). The Audi-like reliability is also another great aspect. The suspension was even soft and comfortable! And the modern cars have such amazing traction control and stability programs. To me, the Lamborghini remains seared in my mind as a great car that's super easy to drive. Yes, the steering feel wasn't great. And the clientele can sometimes be more strange than other car brands - but that car really has left an impression. If only it were easy to see out of...
