5167a Let down
Hi All,
I just pick up my 5167A last month from my local AD. I used it once and then placed it on my winder. On my last trip abroad i forgot to switch my winder on and of course when i got back my watches had stopped. As i wound the brand new 5167 the crown seemed shaky with a lot of lateral "give". I took it back to my AD and low and behold that is NOT normal and a visit back to the regional service centre was the only solution on offer. So now i have a new watch which is defective and will be away between 1-3 months.
This is truly disturbing after all the hype on QC of their time pieces. I have never had this problem with any of my other pieces which range from A-Z. This is also not the only Patek i own. The other 2 have been well behaved.
My question to all the horologists out there is should i write directly to PP to express at my disgust at returning a brand new watch or bite my tongue and say oh well its the luck of the draw?
Appreciate all comments and views
Regards frustratedly
Jo

Gauss bell distribution is applicable to watchmaking as well; there will be watches outside the specification despite the quality checks done. In my case I sent my Cartier (under guarantee) for servicing because the chronograph hand didn't jump to 0. I re...

Thank you for the kind calming words. Its just the frustration of a defect in a brand new watch from PP. If it was an inferior brand and i had not spent an insignificant amour of money, perhaps my frustrations would be less intense. Kind Regards Jo

Hi Amaan, The ideal way would be to wind it up by hand, let it run down, then repeat that a couple of times. A new car also requires time for it to be carefully "worked in". How many of us have the patience to do that with a watch? Not many - including my...

HI, Thanks for your views that i appreciate. Perhaps i was not clear with the defect. The Crown when extended has lateral movement that even the AD has admitted is NOT normal. I checked this against another similar piece that they had in store. So the wor...
