I’m afraid as a huge Patek fan but non collector I have to disagree with some of your thoughts.
You clearly have a passion built over many years of Patek ownership that guides your thoughts on what direction they should take - as do many other respondents to your thread. Your salmon 5970 is an absolutely amazing piece and extremely rare.
I would of had no chance for many reasons to obtain such a piece from Patek but with the latest non Limited 5270P there is a chance for punters such as myself to also get a chance to wear a wonderful Patek. For this reason alone I applaud the recent introduction and am happy that many more Patek fans will get to experience the wonders of salmon. I was also lucky enough to get a Nautilus 40th 5711, which I firmly believe would never of happened had they produced the ‘really special’ piece that all the Patek ‘collectors’ seemed to want- Patek ownership is not a private club for the fortunate few but is rather an experience for the many to enjoy.

....yes, the finishing does seem of a higher standard to the 5170......yes... On 5131.....i can't tell you as mine doesn't arrive until next week!!!
