Launch of the IWC Portuguese Yacht Club in Singapore - Part 1 of 2 (Day)

Last week, 3 November was the IWC Day to launch the Portuguese Yacht Club at  the Marina at Keppel Bay in Singapore after the  launch in Kuala Lumpur.  The reason I mentioned 'day', was indeed it was a full day, started from afternoon 2:30pm till 9pm.  Turnout was good and some guests even took a day off to attend.

In the afternoon guests were treated to set sail onboard the luxurious Long Ranger and also the Beneteau First 40.7 yachts, for a taste of the navigational experience and wonderful gateaway from the cities for about 3 hours.  The session continued through the evening with the Portuguese Yacht Club launch and a dinner in restaurant Prive at Keppel Bay.

Goris Verburg, General Manager (SEA) IWC South East Asia, greeted everyone and provided a short intro about the programmes...

He mentioned, for the sea trip there were 3 vessels : the Long Ranger and two Beneteau First 40.7 yachts.  Midway stop, guests in the Beneteau First 40.7 yachts could swop over to the Long Ranger.

He also introduced the professional sailors-cum-instructors ( Lynnette Leong & Tan Thong Meng) sailing with us.  We were in good hands and if have any navigating questions, these two experts would be able to provide answers.

After the briefing, we set off.  Through the secured area ....

We splitted into 3 groups.

As each  Beneteau First 40.7 yacht could hold only eight of us, the first brave-sixteen boarded the yacht while the rest went on to the Long Ranger.

When asked why do sailors still have one onboard with the modern instrumentation installed?

She replied, the instrument served as a backup, in case the instrumentation failed, and it is also the basic which all sailors should know.
