+/- five dress and four weekend . . . quality over quantity . . .
I endeavor to wear my watches often. Preferably, I wear my dress/work watches once a week, and my weekend watches every other week. Anything less and I am hard pressed to justify the amount of capital tied up in the piece. When I previously owned a greater number of watches, certain pieces would go unworn for many weeks at a time. I do not own watches to sit around gathering dust. Rather, I own them to wear them . . . I derive pleasure from wearing my watches. For me personally, wearing a watch ten times a year is not enought to justify the capital investment. I prefer to own fewer watches of superior quality, and wear them more often, so as to maximize my enjoyment.

There is a quota, and then there are the "extras."
I would probably do best with about ten watches. However, I have many more. My tastes seem to change, so even when I have a watch that does not get much wear I tend to hold on to it in case I once again get interested in wearing it.
Well, my self-serving rationale
is to have 3 good pieces to hand down to each of my children. Its a noble reason for me to divert my resources.
A golden rule
All the watches which add something to my collection. Another golden rule: My Banker. So, 1 and 2 are my watch quota. Best, Nicolas
