...and have a limited budget. Would you rather buy a a time only watch of a high tier brand or, for the same amount, a perpetual calendar of a lover tier brand? ...  

I'll start with the complication, or in my case the lack of. Between dwindling eyesight and a growing taste for simplicity, I would personally go time only. I can appreciate the craftsmanship of complicated watches but I have little interest in them from ... 

I was actually always atracted by the complexity of high complication watches...actually a perpetual calendar has grail character for me...😊

There are great options amongst the big three in the neo vintage category sub-10k usd. The AP you show is one example but on the larger diameter side

I have a soft spot for VC's patrimony 81160, lovely case and movement (if a bit small). Even the modern VC traditionnelle is a bit of a bargain, just like the breguet 5907.

so this larger diameter would suit me nicely!😁

a Basic one can be had in the grey market for ~11,000 USD sheich you reaslly cannot beat in terms of movement finishing and overall aesthetic. and you can dress it up and dress it down 39mm

Show me a perpetual I can read in less than perfect light and which fits my wrist and you’ll change my life. But when you learn to appreciate the beauty of design and execution in some of the simplest watches your life will be forever richer!

It's enough information on the dial for me. I don't need the other information as I bring a hard copy diary.

In theory I would like time only. But.... I get bored and end up flipping them for complicated watches.

Although I could imagine that a service of a high tier brand time only watch will be just as high as for a PC of a low tier brand....

For me, I would go with the simple time only from a higher tier brand. I would go for quality, finishing, and higher level of design and execution over additional complications.

I love simplicity. In addition the movement in the Audemars is very special.

I'd get the highest end brand I could afford with the most simple dial. Best, Robert
