Horological Meandering

Curious, why do we (not me) buy watches with tourbillon movements, and are they necessary? Do they reallty make a watch more accurate, a lot of COSC certified movements are pretty accurate and can be within a few seconds a month, quartz is even more accur...  

To me they are just mesmerizing to observe along with the rhythmic beating of larger non-tourbillon balance wheels.

But mechanical watches in general could be considered the same.

Now it's just a novelty and although an engineering marvel, I don't think it improves accuracy.

whose balance wheel was always affected by gravity in the same direction since they were stored motionless in a pocket, always in the same position. They are not nearly as essential in a wristwatch, but they can't hurt and they look good! Best, Emmanuel

Of course there is an art to it as well, since high-precision machining is extremely easy nowadays. It extends the questions about buying tourbillons. Guess we buy tourbillons because we love the art of it. A $300 Chinese watch has a tourbillon, so it is ... 

Mostly used because it looks cool.

Are they necessary? No art objects are. No mechanical watches are necessary these days. But we like them for emotions - beauty, admiration, respect, affiliation, and for this IMHO some tourbillons work really well. I proudly own: PSM Vintage Tourbillon pi... 

than non-tourbillon wrist watches because, and please correct me here if I’m wrong, they are a pain to regulate as you have to re-assemble a Tourbillon every time you want to re-regulate it, it is very time consuming, so most producers don’t bother regula... 

The real purpose of a tourbillon is to separate the client from as much money as possible.

until I own this: I am not hung up on accuracy but these things are very attractive. Worth the price of admission I feel... ...
