Driving
Hi Ed,
I have driven to Basel and will do again this time. The big problem is traffic! It is either leave early or arrive later in the day as it is chaos! The option that I have done in the past is to leave your car the other side of town (or at the hotel) and then just tram it in... it is far quicker and you will get into the fair without the hassles of all the queues.

Hi Ed, You already have your room confirmed? If not, I doubt you would now find a hotel in Basel (they were all sold out months ago) so you will more than likely be in one of the outlying towns unless you are very lucky. Andrew

It not too far
I have stayed near there before and it is not too far away. Not as convenient as Zurich (in terms of lots of trains) but certainly closer by car.
