I must admit
I was very skeptical when I first heard about the RL watches, but now that I llok at them, I am a bit more interested. I have to say I like the interesting look of the Stirrup line, especailly the chronograph. Is that a JLC movement in that chrono, too, or just in the Sport line? Platinum with an enamel dial -- sounds really luxe. The Slim line is very attractive, as you say, the star of the show., The dial and case are both really eyecatching. And I like the PVD'd Sport chronograph. Is it ture sport with a swimmable water resistance?
In any case, I would love to see these in the metal. Yes, I am interested enough that I would like to see and handle them.

an intriguing partnership between ralph lauren and richemont. the classic thin line with the piaget movements is especially exciting. Ultimately, I prefer the Altiplano---but the Ralph Lauren line is consistent and eye turning. thanks for sharing J

You're right about the RL Sports Classic
You don't even have to be a sharp-eyed Purist: looking at the back of the Sports Classic and seeing the IWC caliber 98xxx is a shocker. Seeing "Ralph Lauren" on the top plate made me rub my eyes and look again. Can't say that I'd ever choose the RL model ...
I dont think it will be short-lived. Both RL and Richemont,
who both have reserves to see this through are committed to this project over the long term. However, production run numbers on all lines are in the low numbers, so even with this being a long term committment, you will not see too many of the RL Watches ...

the watches are very nice, although i wouldnt personally buy one. One thing that I think could be improved are the sports watches. the movement could have been 1000 times nicer. if i were designing it id replace that ugly oscillating weight with an AP roy...

rotor on the automatic movement are good and perhaps RL should look into this. As for the high sales volume, I dont think so; I dont think that RL is in this as a money making venture per se. Obviously he wants it to be profitable, but if he wanted volume...
i agree with you
but i would imagine since RL are spending massive amounts of money on these watches (promoting and developing) that they are trying to secure a place in the watch market, even though it may be small when compared to the likes of Piaget or even Gucci watch...
My take on them
is that they are well made watches whose qualities are obscured by perceptions of the Ralph Lauren brand. Thanks for the report. - SJX
