Thanks for the thoughts - I think your ideas about the

 

rotor on the automatic movement are good and perhaps RL should look into this.  As for the high sales volume, I dont think so; I dont think that RL is in this as a money making venture per se.  Obviously he wants it to be profitable, but if he wanted volume, he would have thrown an quartz movement in the back of the watch and had a licensee take care of the rest.  No, here, I think RL is making a statement about his personal belief in watches, and in his desire to create a watches that are 'timeless' in design and will last for generations, rather then some throw away watch that is here this season and gone the next.  The durability of the polo shirt in terms of timeless design is just that; always looks good!
