Horological Meandering

There's wisdom aplenty . . .

. . . distilled into just a few lines:

"But to avoid the 'big brands' and to go for independents or small brands only is not the solution from my point of view. The latter would be just too easy and I still trust almost any brand has at least one good offer, even when it might not be for everyone. Hunting for (personal) value, that´s what it is all about and don´t forget to appreciate what you already have."

I've tried communicating that same message over the years, but not nearly as succinctly as you've just managed.  Accumulating a collection of entirely precious or rare watches may be a laudable goal; when every piece is special, though, the result is diluted.  The surest way to keep ones senses keen at the cutting edge of watchmaking is being well grounded in the commonplace.  A collector purchasing the latest exotica is notable; what's truly impressive is learning of a seasoned collector whose most recent acquisition was ordinary.

Thanks much, Oliver . . . may you have a fulfilling year to come.

Warm regards from So Cal,
