Horological Meandering

Yes, Oliver, 2014 was a year of great friendship and enlightening moments!

Your absolutely outstanding pictorial review just reminded me on what an excellent year it was - having had the privilege for repeated instances to do (not only) the fair reports together with your, my friend.

Indeed, my own bottom-line of what I learned was is to go much deeper below the surface, ask not only the brand representatives, but also suppliers. Its quite revealing to learn about their perspective of e.g. producing machines for the industry. One gets a whole new (complimentary) perspective on the difficulties of producing individual parts, and in addition one learns a lot about the implied objectives of the industry.

I have never imagined before spending hours of fascinating conversation with producers of ultra-precise, ultra-flexible CNC machines. How wrong I was - it turned out that these machines might represent a game changer for the industry...!

I also reinforced my appreciation of interacting with other collectors - people what passionately follow a brand, a complication  - you name it. They are the real, hard-learned experts. If a brand applies a new technology which reduces costs, if they change suppliers - those aficionados are the ones who spot it first, and who an incredible source of knowledge on how to spot such differences.

Oliver, and all others here: It was a great horological year, and I feel proud and enriched to be part of this community.

Let's make 2015 even more rewarding!

Cheers,
Magnus
