Independents

I saw this in IG.

My comments are as such
1. Watchboxes main watch expert (Tim Mosso) is a huge DeBethune fan. Now, whether that is serendipitous or a result of him betting more exposure to the brand as watchbox had more DeBethunes on hand (as they were eyeing purchasing a stake in the brand); No one will ever know
2. DeBethune on its own merit, is a brand with several patents and watch inventions under its watchmakers name. They were very under-appreciated until 1-2 years ago, as most of the Indie focus was on journe (which I think is what you are eluding to, in your example). Now the secondary prices of DeBethunes has gone up (maybe due to the WatchBox factor), which means that the brand is finally getting the attention that it deserves
3. What does this mean for someone who already owns a DeBethune? Great news, Bc the brand is more likely to continue to exist, and Bc the timepieces will have better value retention (maybe even appreciation)
4. What does this mean to a humble/beginning collector like me? It tells me to add that DB28 Digitale to my “in your dreams” list, and that DeBethune is gonna join Journe as a brand that become accessible to the uber-rich and super connected. Is that the end of the horological world, to me: far from it…plenty of other [horological] fish in the sea

Thanks for sharing the news. Eager to hear what others have to say
