Independents

That's what is called a self-made watchmaker.

Hi Ken,

I was eagerly waiting for your report since you mentionned you were going to me him. He is the proof that getting back to basics in watchmaking helps to reach the top.

This guy really has a true talent as he mixes thourough tehnical and aesthetics masteries at the same time and being able to perform such a caliber (yet has to be tested but seems great on paper) and such a dial (completly different knowledge from movement engineering and crafting skills).

He is pragmatic too (Pt vs Stainless Steel, balance wheel design ...).

As you said, he is really "down to earth" and some brands should really inspire their behaviour from him...

Here watchmaking seems easy to go into compared to what marketing is used to telling us. Of course it "seems" easy but surely is not, but anyway he reached it quite quickly as long as he follows an smart process.

What I loved :
- caliber design and finishing
- dial finishing (amazing indeed from the macros)
- style: painted dial parts, printings, bezel, case back
- buckle design & finishing (even if highly vulnerable to scratches)

What I liked less:
- the case side shape & finishing style
- maybe to small

I wish him the best of luck (it seems beginning quite well when I see the tourbillon too) and thanks Ken for this wonderful report. I hope we'll hear from him again soon!

Cheers,

Mark
