Omega

After sifting thru available sources . . .

. . . it's my sense that the 'chronometer grade' appellation given to various Omega military issue references is probably related to contractual arrangements that specified tight tolerances for delivered goods.  As Steve has already clarified, the level of mechanical refinement evident in the 30T2SCrg wasn't carried over to the movements fitted to these watches, my ref 2179 included.  'Chronomètre' script isn't in evidence on the dials of any of these models, and neither is the 'ADJUSTED FIVE (5) POSITIONS AND TEMPERATURE' engraving . . .

. . . on their movements.

I would be comfortable with referring to these models as 'chronometers in all but name', Joe.  They likely met a tight specification when leaving Bienne, which just as likely didn't survive the first parachute jump or dive on the deck for the men they were issued to.
