Not my cup of tea…

This has all the hallmarks of a flipper yet when it is Sly Stallone it is allowed?!? I’m actually disappointed that these watches are coming on the market when Patek is trying to prevent flippers (ie. Gordon’s letter from Thierry). How is it ok when a celebrity can jump the line to get these coveted watches and then flip them, whereas, regular clients have to wait years for an allocation from their AD? If Sly Stallone is able to purchase additional Patek from their AD in the coming years, everyone will know there are always exceptions to the “no flipping rule” and celebrity status means it does not apply to them.  An anti-thesis of the “know your client” principle and approach Patek is trying to build upon over the years.

He hast got a history of groth factor hormone abuse, obvious plastic surgery in face, mostlikely lipo suction. He is far from being a narutally aged man.

After Rocky one and Rambo one he lost his roles completely. Only a short brilliance in Cop Land was a peak in his career. All just my personal opinion, who likes the three movies a lot!

That’s child’s play in Hollywood.

He is for sure on TRT, and has definitely use steroids for bodybuilding in the past. But if you compare him to other men in his generation of had plastic surgery, he actually looks decent. Others Dan even look human, but more humanoid.

Works for me

Did he get divorced recently if I remember? Seems he's unloading some stuff. Best of luck to him. Weird to have a new RO tourbillon, green 5711 and the grand master. All stuff I'm sure he got saying he wouldn't sell 🤷‍♂️ the 1 of 1 all gold pam I kinda li...

I think the divorce was called off :) 😅 I was surprised of the previous auction where he sold some amazing RM...

controversial question for all Patek collectors: how would Patek or should Patek react to this sale 🤭 ? In my humble opinion the "no resell policy" doesn't really apply to VVIP clients !

Frankly,

By: InHavenPro : May 6th, 2024-20:04
That was the only thought that occured to me from the entire video....

He is a legend. I hope a divorce is not the reason, or a terminal illness either 🙁

By: ArmisT : May 6th, 2024-22:08
Is the purpose of this video by Sotheby’s basically to have Sly talk up the pieces to increase the sales values? If so, Im not sure how I feel about him doing this, unless he’s forced to…in which case I feel bad he’d have to do this.

I found his pre-auction videos fascinating..may be because I grew up watching his movies

By: christianch : May 6th, 2024-22:57
there is nothing wrong on having the owner talking about their pieces. How many videos and pre-auction events did Christies for the FP Journe auction etc. etc. As a collector (obviously microscopic in comparison with him) that did let go a number of watch...

Is it reasonable though for the same watch being sold/auctioned by Christian vs by Sly to ultimately receive more because it was owned by Sly??🤔

By: ArmisT : May 6th, 2024-23:09
It’s kind of rhetorical because I know what most will answer. And that is indeed reasonable in the case of the watch he wore in his movies, or that was personally made and dedicated to him. However, the unopened Patek at the end should not mean more, espe...

Not my taste

To me most of these watches scream look at me I have alot of money and not much else. For me his collection just lacks aesthetic cohesiveness. I guess it keeps the manufacturers in business (and the auction houses) so god bless.

I knew you would like that! unique !!

By: christianch : May 6th, 2024-22:58
but I heard he was not happy with how Panerai treated him after he basically did put the brand on the map.

But he has a lot of money, and pretty much everything else,so why not?

By: ZSHSZ : May 7th, 2024-15:38
I can only be happy for him and all who can acquire such things. But sealed PP??? I wouldn’t be able to resist )

Will he get blacklisted by PP and/or AP....and does he need bundling to get those? Probably not...Money talks and that's life, like I said in Gordon's post.

By: Clueless_Collector : May 6th, 2024-21:33
How about the AD who delivered the Grand Master Chime, sealed?? I'm sure a lot of people will love to get a piece or two like that and think "Paul Newman". Seems like a lot of offloading by mega collectors since the peak of 2022. BS, BS, lol....

I don't think he will be blacklisted 😅if anything he will raise so much awarness with the auction so all nice publicity

By: christianch : May 6th, 2024-22:59
I was surprised about the grand master chime. Wasn't Patek policy never ever to sell watches in the plastic? 😅 since this was delivered by Patek, we know is not true for VVIP

Makes me sick to my core.

By: Miles_151 : May 6th, 2024-21:42
Disgraceful. Should never have been allowed one in the first place. Well done Sly you’ve just added a few more Mil to your fortune. Another nail sadly. M.

but why? I think his reasoning makes sense. He bought it as a piece of art and realised is the time to let it go.

By: christianch : May 6th, 2024-23:01
Just the fact that it was his watch makes it so much cooler in my humble opinion. I feel he treated the grandmaster chime with more respect than other celebrities flexing it on Instagram (Jay-Z Wahlberg comes to mind)

It’s like a bad QVC commercial.

By: Jay (Eire) : May 6th, 2024-21:57
The only watch of note there might be the Gold Slytech. One of one (assuming that is correct) for the guy they named the watch after. Otherwise a lot of noise and hype, and that includes that Patek.

come on, you have to admit that the grand master chime is *the* watch

By: christianch : May 6th, 2024-23:02
plus the green Nautilus with diamonds...each is really a masterpiece (not a huge fan of the Panerais but in his context it makes sense)

The Nautilus absolutely not.

By: Jay (Eire) : May 7th, 2024-00:10
I do love the design, and I do love how it wears. I owned a basic steel Nautilus for years. An iconic watch for sure, but nothing special in terms of collecting. Diamonds or no diamonds. The Chime must be one of the ugliest watches Patek ever produced and...

I’d rather wear a smartwatch than

Something with his name or initials. Only strong performance was copland and this video is even worse than Rambo 3😱

I'm a fan of Sly..

By: jp884 : May 6th, 2024-23:01
And after seeing his recent documentary on Netlfix he really struck me as a very smart individual. Personally, I think Sly is grappling with the understanding that time itself is not infinite for us. And that this wild ride of life eventually sadly comes ...

I agree, better to sell them while you are alive than after..is like an art collection for him

By: christianch : May 6th, 2024-23:05
he did let some more go in 2020. And he bought some new ones. This is what makes it fun in stade of just hoarding pieces till you die.

I don't know Sly.

By: patrick_y : May 8th, 2024-05:04
But I don't see anything wrong here with him selling a work of art. I'm sure it hurts him inside to sell this piece that he had to petition for the privilege to acquire and he's not showing his sadness that he's selling it (he is an actor). Whatever the r...

I’ve seen a lot of content on Sly’s watch collection.

By: gary_g : May 7th, 2024-03:51
It’s perfectly fitting for him. The PP is insane and so fitting that he hasn’t worn it. I hope the money from the auction goes to charity.

You’re probably right.

By: gary_g : May 7th, 2024-11:00
Although in general only 20% of your charity donation actually goes to end use.

Let's see the result

Definitely not the best historical moment for selling watches, despite all the fairy tales of the gains and returns. 😁😅 He kept the grandmaster sealed because he didn't want those annoying hairlines 🤣🤣 Patek commercial is right, you never own it, you just...

👏haha yes I hope it was a good companion in your daily adventures!

By: christianch : May 7th, 2024-17:28
As I did sold many pieces to consolidated my collection I understand his principle of letting someone else enjoying a watch that is simply not used enough..for sure the one in the plastic is not really used ! never touched !

ROFL - “this is how you would treat a Monet”

By: xto : May 7th, 2024-11:00
Can’t think of the last time I saw a Monet wrapped in cheap plastic Wish I knew how to create a meme of a Monet in plastic!

Thanks for sharing the video which is interesting and informative !

By: GLau : May 7th, 2024-14:08
Hopefully his horological passion is genuine and reasons for selling are legitimate given the current high demand for Patek.

I saw it on my YouTube feed earlier this morning but thank you for bring it up.👍🏻

+1 I think I would have not resisted so long, with my name on the box it just wants me to use it

By: christianch : May 7th, 2024-17:29
I even think the price could have been similar. I've never been a fan of watches in plastic. It really ruins it for me (unless I am buying it from the boutique!!)

I really don’t understand what all the fuss is about. If Sylvester Stallone at this point in his life wants to sell some watches…… so what?

By: patekova : May 7th, 2024-20:46
Sylvester Stallone is about to turn 78 years old (certainly as good a time as any for self reflection). As a result of being so accomplished as an actor, filmmaker, screenwriter and director he has been able to afford to buy pretty much whatever he wanted...

I agree 👏 I love the fact that we get to see such a great collection

Hi Gordon. As far as unsealing, from my own experience I derived no pleasure from owning a double sealed 5970J.

By: patekova : May 8th, 2024-16:24
At least if a watch is unsealed you can hold, see what it really looks like, wind it (which is good for the watch), etc. it was a very happy day when I unsealed my 5970J and started to wear it. But if Sly enjoys keeping it sealed, I certainly wouldn’t que...

Perhaps the main reason Patek started a few years ago to prohibit delivery of sealed watches was to discourage

By: patekova : May 8th, 2024-17:27
flipping. But apparently an inadvertent effect of delivering sealed watches was to also encourage some buyers (like Stallone) to keep the watch in a factory fresh state of preservation. There was a part of me that felt that way after buying a 12 year old ...
