Perhaps you could leave the first link and use a custom made strap from there. I did do it on my AP RO; even bought a new clasp to considerable expense... and the novelty soon wore off. Back to a bracelet ever since.
I applaud your well calculated, and executed, risk. However, I would only use that tool with great care, as I am sure you have, to maintain the watch spotless.
Even though for me it would be a nightmare to own a manually wound perpetual, congratulations on a wonderful watch.
