Patek Philippe

Bruno...i disagree with your answer to some extent...

....its simply wrong to state that a certain size watch is "the perfect size". It may be the perfect size for you, but that will differ from one person to the next. The perfect size watch for me is probably 37-38mm...and depending on the style of the case, a 35-36mm looks perfect on my wrist. You just can't superimpose your taste and view as a generic.

Having said that, I think it is true that there is a certain line in the sand....a line that will vary from one to another. My view is that a lot of "new money" has found its way into watches, and what this nouveau riche want to do is have their watch shown to the world....hence the drive towards bigger and more overt watches. Thats just my personal opinion. I think there will always be a group of traditional Patek collectors who have no need or desire to have the world judge them by the watch that they wear.....rather they wear it because they themselves love it....for this group, I am not at all sure the size of the watch makes any difference at all.

The thread here asks a similar question to the one I asked in my own thread. There are indeed many vintage Pateks which are true masterpieces. They are discrete, under-the-radar and very conservative. But, such traditional qualities are not necessarily going to get that watch recognised in public....and that will mean a lot to a certain group of collectors......to those who need to show their watches....to those who like to wear large watches for personal taste as well.
