Patek Philippe

I had been searching for a travel watch for a while, and a Patek wasn’t in my consideration set. I looked into a PF Tonda GMT, but was concerned the design would be too bland after a while. I also considered a VC Dual Time, but the proportions were just t...  

And a great thank you for this detailed and thoughtful review. I’m glad your watch arrived so quickly and what an outstanding first post here and first Patek in your collection! As you know, I share your appreciation of the 5134 and strongly relate to man... 

The platinum version is great as well. I just happened to find a strong example of this variant first

Then, congrats on your first Patek, too. I am not sure the 5134 is under appreciated, though. It has its charm and interest, it cannot compete with the 5110 which is a totally different watch. It has a friendly complication, a nice manual winding movement... 

I agree it would be a challenge to balance the dial with a date. I like the looks of the 5110, but personally actually prefer the 5134. I can understand why collectors are split on this model… it has unique characteristics that don’t firmly put it into a ... 

For me, as much as I like the PP5134 travel time, I prefer it to be automatic, for practical reasons.

I like automatics and manuals at different times. Having manuals as part of the collection adds a bit of nostalgia.

It’s a very beautiful watch and totally undervalued. Wear it in tie best of health!

And agreed…but, can see the split in the collector community and the pitfalls of this model. It makes for a great buy for those who are drawn to it, like myself!

Love the integration of the travel complication. This set up was a precursor to the 5164 and what followed.

Such is this hobby… we’re always trading it in for something else we want to experience.

I feel the first Patek will always be a well thought one. Much research before the jump. I had a close encounter with a 5134g, but just wasn't ready to buy for some reason. I think its practical. Kinda sporty and dressy...and still sexy from the crown gua...  

I love the look of the Breguet numerals. The distinction between the two hour hands was too subtle for my subpar eyes. The 5098r is a great choice!
