Hi all, I am ready to pull the trigger to buy my first Patek. I wanted a brand new one with my own named certificate and I have narrowed down to 5170G-010 (white gold black dial) or the 5905P-010 (platinum black dial). I would love to hear everyone's opin...

Why? 1/ Because I always found the positioning of the date counters just perfect 2/ it is an annual calendar (more useful than a chrono IMHO) 3/ it is a dressed watch but can be wear in less casual moments If I were you, I would choose the blue dial inste... 

I would go to on the Patek 5905P-010 why i like of the complication of the annual calendar and this watch is more elegant and dressy. About value, I abstain to think about this, buy what will to good on the wrist in time to test drive. Good week! EJR888.

Annual calendar, can be dressed up or down and the blue dial is beautiful.

But I personally like the 5170 more because of the movement and manual wind, as well as the aesthetic of breguet numerals and leaf hands. I certainly appreciate the argument for the AC but this 5170 is just my preference. Good luck.

The manual chrono movement is just gorgeous and the thinner case feels more comfortable on the wrist to me than the 5905.

as was in that same exact case a few months ago! I wanted to buy my first "new Patek" as all my watches were vintage. They were vintage because I find most of the new ones too big. I love the 5110s better than the new WTs. I love the 3800s as much as the ...  

The 5170 case leaves me a little bit cold, and i would much prefer the 5905P. The 5170 case is a little too thin, and does not have the heft of the P. Good luck!

JC, nice post thanks and the 5905 looks extra good on you! It's a real dilemma for me, obviously I like both, I feel that right now the trend favors 5905 i.e. bigger and sportier watch, both are classical and will never go out of style. I wish I could get...

I think that if you want a PP chrono it has to be a manual movement IMO. I tried the 5905P few months ago and I could not get over the thickness. It is heavy on the wrist and I could not wear it all day long. Previous heavy watches I owned spent their tim...  

I asked to try with a folding clasp, and it makes the watch even thicker. That\'s the reason I think.

I believe the 5905P looks a tad big on your wrist that will make the 5960P looks will get an added power reserve,12 hours chrono counter and a folding clasp as well. Best, Ahmed

I like the look of the 5960, I think it is no longer in production (5905 was released to replace the 5960 I believe) so will have to get pre-owned. I always think that somehow I would get my first Patek new with my name on the certificate, as a finance pe... 

You should find a new,sealed 5960P with open papers,I don\'t believe it\'s a hard be quite easy. Grey and blue dialed are easier actually than black as black was produced for a shorter period. Best, Ahmed This message has been edited by beejo on 2016-06-... 

quite a bit and have not been able to find any 5960-016 with open papers. I found 7 of them so far, spread all over the world, but mostly in "mint" condition. PM me if you have any ideas. I have tried both 5960-016 and 5905 black on and for my wrist I lik... 

.....5070 is an icon for Patek. You could find a 5070G.....

Well, it is always a tricky subject. Giving an auction result is one thing (and allowed), for instance for vintage watches while discussing about history is one thing, but trying to give a value to a watch by selecting a few results is another as it may n... 

The very first reference to use the 29-535 PS was the ladies 7170 which I believe came out in 2009.

I understand your points Mark. And yes, they're completely valid. But something about a 42mm Patek (which is not the 5070) somehow "clashes" with my own views of PP. Subtlety, discretion, slipping under a shirt cuff - not quite so possible with a 42mm wat...

Last week in PP boutique in Genever I got the chance to try both on my wrist - and the blue edition of 5905, as well. My findings: though I have a smaller wrist (about 17,5 cm) both/all three do match fine. Due to special form of case, the 5905 looks smal... 

the breguet numerals and sphistucation of the 5170 and a useless complication being a chrono versus a more useful calendar. 42mm I think bit big for me and 40mm perfect. Manual versus auto the latter I prefer....will probably go 5170

Firstly, i don't think there is a wrong choice here. Having said that..... The 5905 has a lovely complication......that degree of complexity wins me over a lot. In fact, it would be a decisive factor for me. Future value is always tricky....i certainly ha... 

I suspect the 5905 is a tough one to get as the demand is higher I believe.
