Despite the above, I think you should buy what you love. As far as "investment value" of a regular production modern Patek, I think you should consider your purchase an "investment" in your happiness - no more, no less.
Assuming you still can't decide - the 5905P is an automatic, platinum chronograph with an annual calendar feature. Usually when a complication is added to another complication the price is drastically higher. Here the platinum 5905 is $thousands less than the white gold chronograph!
So if I LOVED the 5170G with a few exclamation points I would buy it . Anything less than that feeling I would buy the 5905P.
Having said that, either way you can't go wrong.

5905P in blue dial
Annual calendar, can be dressed up or down and the blue dial is beautiful.
Both are great watches.
But I personally like the 5170 more because of the movement and manual wind, as well as the aesthetic of breguet numerals and leaf hands. I certainly appreciate the argument for the AC but this 5170 is just my preference. Good luck.

The manual chrono movement is just gorgeous and the thinner case feels more comfortable on the wrist to me than the 5905.

The 5170 case leaves me a little bit cold, and i would much prefer the 5905P. The 5170 case is a little too thin, and does not have the heft of the P. Good luck!
