I'd like to give a contrarian view here
Since it will be your first QP, I would suggest going for a round shaped QP like a 5140 (recently discontinued perhaps available in NOS or used) or the more modern 5320 which can evoke vintage-feel similar to the 5940. Something I'm not completely sold on the 5940 is the thick date numeral font on the subdial.
Confession: I own a 5140g and I love the size of the watch even though most positive reviews tend to go to its older sibling 3940. The squished date on the subdial makes the dial more interesting and to my liking.
Good luck on your decision.
