Patek Philippe

I am considering purchasing either the 5940G or the 5159R. This will be my first QP. Currently I have the 5170G, 5110J and 5146R. ( chronograph, world time and annual calendar respectively). Any thought on these two perpetual calendars would be appreciate... 

On the other I absolutely adore the 5940G, for me this year's best release by Patek. I generally love tonneau shapes, here perfectly combined with a PC. I would say that for a Tonneau shape the PC is ITS complication. Further the dimension are very elegan... 

But 5940 is one of my favorites. It's slim with a nice dial layout and I am a fan of breguet numerals. Again, both are good choices for a PC but for me the 5940 wins. Also congrats on already having a great rotation of Pateks. Either one you choose will b... 

I was thinking to possible make a trade for the 5940G. Perhaps the 5170G since they are both white gold. It would help reduce the cost. The Perpetual calendar function is better for me compared to the chronograph. Just thinking of my options. So may watch...

I think you are correct. It is a lovely reference that is a keeper. On question. It seems that the amount of pressure it takes to open the 5170G deploy any clasp is minimal compared to my 5146R. This make me nervous since on a few occasions the deployant ... 

I have a preference for the 5940G because of the case shape, the Breguet numerals which add a certain elegance and the 240 mini rotor which I find more attractive than the 324 automatic movement of the 5159R. I am biased as I own a 5940G (silver dial). I ... 

The 5159 is much too cluttered for my taste. The 5940 has a clean dial and is very legible. I got a white dial 5940g.

I found the WG too cold IMO.

Since it will be your first QP, I would suggest going for a round shaped QP like a 5140 (recently discontinued perhaps available in NOS or used) or the more modern 5320 which can evoke vintage-feel similar to the 5940. Something I'm not completely sold on...

Much less clear to me. I have a 3940J and 5159R and absolutely love them both. The 5159 is mesmerizing. I don't think you could go wrong with either.

My first Patek had a hunter case 5054J. I wore it every day for 10 years. This is why the 5159 appeals to me. I love the nostalgia and the look of the classic hunter case. I have always wanted a perpetual calendar as well.
