Well, I see how important this new step is in your collection
The choice of a QP from Patek is something we wish to make very special and enjoy as much as we can.
You have chosen 2 unusual and very appealing models.
They are both traditional but the 5159R, because of the material color but also for the round specific case and dial decoration (hands especially) is even more so. The 5940G is more on the classical side, more discreet, and easier to wear everyday.
I must say that it would be difficult for me to choose. The movements are both very appealing and you already have a 324 and a 240.
I think it would mainly depend on how I will use it (work or else). I like the 5159R a little better for its shape and romantism but that's very subjective. However, for an everyday wear, I would maybe choose a 5940G (it depends of course on your country, work etc...).
The officer's caseback is another very interesting element from the 5159, even if this is not the kind of display you may use everyday, and so is the date mechanism.

From the 5159R i love the retrograde date and the onion crown. The design is in my opinion too classical.

I was thinking to possible make a trade for the 5940G. Perhaps the 5170G since they are both white gold. It would help reduce the cost. The Perpetual calendar function is better for me compared to the chronograph. Just thinking of my options. So may watch...

I like the 5940G
The 5159 is much too cluttered for my taste. The 5940 has a clean dial and is very legible. I got a white dial 5940g.

I'd like to give a contrarian view here
Since it will be your first QP, I would suggest going for a round shaped QP like a 5140 (recently discontinued perhaps available in NOS or used) or the more modern 5320 which can evoke vintage-feel similar to the 5940. Something I'm not completely sold on...

My first Patek had a hunter case 5054J. I wore it every day for 10 years. This is why the 5159 appeals to me. I love the nostalgia and the look of the classic hunter case. I have always wanted a perpetual calendar as well.
