I made a litte review about this one
I think the 5940 has a lot of charm, while not being too "original" (cushion shape case) in a way one can appreciate it on the long run with a yet traditional feeling.
Some watches with black dial have a sportier look, especially with the white markings contrast. This one remains classical (I think it is due to the polished white gold Breguet numerals) though has definitely a more contemporary spirit. I think it is an excellent choice.
It is very difficult to judge between the white and the black dial. As you say, it depends also on the dial you already possess.
However, I would maybe try to ask myself how I would wear it (when etc...) and then try to feel if I would prefer it in black or in a lighter color.
Among silver dial watches and considering my own taste, I think that I would personally be more tempted by the black color but this is just me.
It is a great project CB.
