I've been lurking near the PC Chrono iconic Pateks lately and trying to discover what attracts me in a 3970, in a 5970 (and 5070) as in the last 5270G white (ref 013) and blue dial (ref 014) (and the 5170G). It is natural that watch fans usually prefer ol...  

the time one needs to appreciate the 5270 and 5170. Although, to achieve bigger day and month indications / apertures the subdials had to be placed lower on the dial. As form follows function for the 5270 it doesn't for the 5170. My stronger feelings for ...

The 5070 and 5970 are perfect in every way and the change to 5170 and 5270 not bad but will never be the same. So for me as someone who owned all 4 I can say that 5070 and 5970 are with its a doubt my favorite 2 Pateks of all time. In fact if I only owned... 

5970 is perfect in many regards. Not sure id call the 5070 a classic, but it is impressive and modern - and I regret parting with my 5070p. What I disagree with Mark is that the 5970 took time to get used to. I think the reception to the launch of the 597...

......I have owned 5270G first series, 5070P, 5970P and 5970R but not the 5170. Of them all, I would say I would only consider buying back the 5970P - for me, it is the quintessential classic PP complication, a pleasure to own, and exciting to put on ever... 

Maybe your wishes will come true in Basel, who knows (5170 or 5270) ? As far as I'm concerned, l'll be particularly curious to know what the new 5170P will look like. Despite heavy Pt watches are not comfortable on my thin wrist, I agree on the fact the 5...

... I agree with a lot of what you said, even if i love the brushed texture of the 5270G, which i think gives life to a dial, contrary to the 5170G or 5270G white, which feel "dry", a dead white dial, that doesn't play with light , without texture or fini...

The dial of the Lange Zeitwerk Handwerskunst is not sand blasted - not at all. In fact it is hand-engraved in tremblage technique. Sorry! Still it is amazing :-) For comparison and the pleasure of looking, PP 5170G vs ALS Zeitwerk Handwerkskunst: Best, Ol...  

... sand blasted is sued to treat glass usually. It was to give the idea of the type of dial that i mentioned the zeitwerk, which is indeed STUNNING!

Cannot be just a piece painted in white, there must be something more to it.

Thanks for the comment Fricks, I appreciate it, and it is a pleasure to be able to discuss whith you in detail of your experience as it gives me food for thoughts before a next visit at Patek. Indeed for the WG composition, it is always hard or impossible...  

... to be precise, from what they mention. Anyway, indeed a visit to the AD can always be good. About Wg, last thing is that former version were "rhodie", rhodium bring more shine. With 5270 and 5170, its clearly less shiny BUT, from my personal experienc... 

I prefer non rhodied surface too :) This evolution is a great improvement regarding long term resistance.
