I smell smoke - what about you?

In New Bond Street London there are many watch stores. At least one of them is selling a lot of Patek Philippe watches.

I once bought a 5134G from this shop and took it for service to Patek Geneva. The watch looked good but the bridges were damaged, screws were changed to non-Patek screws, the hands were polishes and destroyed and the case was ruined by unprofessional "polishing". Patek gave me their analyzes in written form and I carried the watch back.

Now this shop is having a watch I would like to buy. Even better, I'm flying to London early in the morning...

However, I started to calculate something I have been wondering: at the moment this shop is having in their lists 26 Patek Philippe watches with papers (=Certificate of Origin). Six of these watches are coming with undated Certificate of Origin!

I have not seen elsewhere watches with undated Certificates of Origin. Have you?

I smell some smoke - perhaps coming from a printing house. Am I overly careful?

Can't agree more. With the advance in technology, everything can be forged. College graduation certificates, passports, watch case, serial numbers, gold seals inside watch cases (I have seen this in flesh - a 18k Cartier white gold Baignoire with bracelet...
