Note that by 'perversity' I do NOT mean something like 'sexual deviance,' (which seems to be the most common usage) but rather the stricter sense: obstinate refusal to act in accord with the apparently obvious good. Releasing a watch like that would be giving the enthusiasts exactly what they want. But to give the enthusiasts exactly what they want would be for Patek's management to *be led by* the brand enthusiasts rather than to *lead* them, and Patek wants to think of themselves as leading. So they perversely refuse to produce easy and obvious winners like the watch proposed in this thread, or the basic steel Nautilus.
