I posted a similar situation on another Patek board. I was quickly shot down by other posters for not having finalized the details before ordering. Now the AD I purchased from has seen my business for the past ten years and I have purchased MANY watches from him. The watch in question was not an ordinary watch but did require a pre-authorization from Mr. Stern and a meeting with the Patek rep when he visited my city.
My AD wished to split the potential profit of the watch on the secondary market or pay him the difference. I had already agreed to pay a slight premium over retail. In the end, I got the watch for the initially agreed upon price but it really left a VERY bad taste in my mouth for my AD and Patek.
I see the greed factor corrupting all who encounter Patek lately. The demand for the watches has so greatly outstripped the supply that there is huge opportunity to make ridiculous amounts of profit. Just look at the stupid amount paid for the 5712T.
I personally would like to see Patek take these AD's out to the woodshed and bring them back in line. These are the contact points between the manufacturer and the consumer. If they are partaking in less than ethical sales practices, how does that reflect upon watch brand?
In the end, when all the speculators and "investors" have left where will the true enthusiasts be? Probably with VC and Langes.
