This is eye opening

 

Thanks to everyone who responded. You know, not long ago, a different AD asked me for above list on a 5970, which I thought was totally outrageous. He then asked me to BUY A 2nd watch if I did not want to pay above list for the 5970. Repeat: this is a different AD who I will never return to.

The AD I speak of now did not offend me really, with his offer on the 5980. I understand it is a watch that is as hot as it gets and holds a crazy value TODAY, RIGHT NOW. So when he offered me the watch at 10 below GRAY market, it almost felt like a deal! But then it began to feel wrong, all wrong again.

And you have all confirmed for me how wrong it really is. Thank you.

The AD's need to understand, there is no reason to be loyal to them if they are going to behave like the gray market. I actually told my AD this. I told him, listen, "the gray market ALWAYS has a 5980, a 5960, whatever you name it--so why should I wait for YOU to get one if you will charge me nearly what they charge me? I should develop my relationship with THEM, and be loyal to THEM, so THEY treat me as I should be treated," etc, etc.

I'll keep you all updated on what happens. I will communicate all of your feelings to this AD as well.

He is asking a MAJOR premium, but it is still a LOT less than the asking prices of the gray market. On the one hand, it is exciting to be offered the watch. It's a weird and unique Patek, which will IMHO, go only up in value, etc, etc. But in the final an...

Patek Philippe would be appaled that profiteering is being suggested by an authorised dealer. That premium will NOT be seen by Patek Philippe because they already received his 'appropriate' low cost of goods through the normal distributor channels. Patek ...

Mostel, I do not think it is right for an AD to charge a premium . ARE THEY CRAZY. Keep in mind that the AD pays the cost and clears a good margin of profit. Making double profit is uncalled for. I know a couple AD that will make you buy a PP of equal val...
