A few weeks ago, I've been able to try on this ref. 5270J-001 and was amazed at how refined it looks and how well it sits on the wrist , even on a smaller wrist like mine. I had in mind the way this reference has been criticised for its larger case ( 41 x...  

I was lucky to see and try all the ancestors at numerous auction previews, all fantastic and off course a dream, but my all time favorite is the 3970, and then this 5270, preferably the “chin”variant. Same as you mentioned, I thought that it’s to large, b... 

I would imagine that a 4 Hz movement is reliable as a daily companion. But obviously only an owner can tell! Best, Emmanuel

This J version has a vintage look and feel to it, making the watch quite charming ! Your wish list on Pateks is growing and the poison deepens !

I like the way the registers at 3 and 9 only have one function complemented by the circular windows below. It sets the 5270 apart from 5970 in a significant and sensible way. At an auction viewing right next to each other were a 5970R and 5270R. I careful... 

It's good to know that, in real life, the 5270 can be compared to the 5970 without blemishing too much! Best, Emmanuel

I prefer the first version without scale or the later variants with the chin removed.

The chin really doesn't bother me that much. I liked it when it came out. And even when the chin part was pointed out to me, I didn't like it much less. Although I do admit, I can't unsee the chin now. I also kind of like the Vacheron Constantin 5000T in ... 

but the 43 mm case felt too large for my wrist. And the 1142 QP caliber is almost identical aesthetically to the 1142 of my CdV, so it feels a little less attractive for me.

The VC looked thicker than the Patek equivalents, although statistically, they're probably not really thicker. Yes. It's a virtually identical Lemania movement as your CdV, so you've got that base covered!

I saw a Patek PCC in a magazine as a teenager and was mesmerized. It is the epitome of horology for me. I was fortunate to acquire the 5270J on my 40th birthday, which makes it an incredible milestone in journey.

I'm sure you cherish and wear it as much as it deserves to be.

On the 1518 to 5970 the hands were vaulted and three-dimensional, on the current ones they are so flat and plain

But then, I've never seen a 5970 in real life...

The only problem is, like with nearly all Patek chronos, that the scalling on the dial is wrong. 4Hz would ask for four subsecond marks, not five.

I'm sure it wouldn't be that difficult.

and possibly my favourite for those within my reach. The fact that it has so many variants just adds to its appeal (though some feels this dilutes its value), as we all can find our own favourite. Many here feels it lives under the shadow of its esteemed ...
