I like the way the registers at 3 and 9 only have one function complemented by the circular windows below. It sets the 5270 apart from 5970 in a significant and sensible way.
At an auction viewing right next to each other were a 5970R and 5270R. I carefully compared the two and I must say the 5270 certainly stood up well against its counterpart.
The 5270s that I like the most are P green dial. Very open and love lacquered dials. R silver dial - very warm and beautiful. G blue non chin. Love the white case blue dial combination.
P salmon - mixed feelings, Love the dial color, but not so much the dial layout and black hands, black markers.
Might I someday own a 5270? Certainly possible but not something I am considering at this point.

The chin is the only thing I'm personally not fond of.
I prefer the first version without scale or the later variants with the chin removed.
To me, they're all nice.
The chin really doesn't bother me that much. I liked it when it came out. And even when the chin part was pointed out to me, I didn't like it much less. Although I do admit, I can't unsee the chin now. I also kind of like the Vacheron Constantin 5000T in ...
I’ve tried on the rose gold 5000T,
but the 43 mm case felt too large for my wrist. And the 1142 QP caliber is almost identical aesthetically to the 1142 of my CdV, so it feels a little less attractive for me.
I remember it felt thicker on my wrist than the Patek 5270J and 5270G.
The VC looked thicker than the Patek equivalents, although statistically, they're probably not really thicker. Yes. It's a virtually identical Lemania movement as your CdV, so you've got that base covered!
Petal really know what they are doing with the perpetual calendar chronographs, regardless of the reference.

My grail.
I saw a Patek PCC in a magazine as a teenager and was mesmerized. It is the epitome of horology for me. I was fortunate to acquire the 5270J on my 40th birthday, which makes it an incredible milestone in journey.
The movement is a big upgrade over the Lemania, but the hands are a downgrade
On the 1518 to 5970 the hands were vaulted and three-dimensional, on the current ones they are so flat and plain
Interesting point, which didn't catch my eye.
But then, I've never seen a 5970 in real life...
It's a fantastic watch.
The only problem is, like with nearly all Patek chronos, that the scalling on the dial is wrong. 4Hz would ask for four subsecond marks, not five.

I prefer the 5270 to the 5970....
.....as the subdials aren't as centrally positioned due to the larger and perfectly proportioned movement. I also had the 3970 in my collection and find it stunningly beautiful. Unfortunately, its proportions on the wrist never completely convinced me. I'...
I like the 5270G-001 very much.
