Rolex

Absolutely agree with all what you've said....

... i've once stated it in a different manner over here, and got the Rolex fans upset. But totally agree with you. Now if we take it a little deeper, it would be interesting to see all the dealers and vintage collectors that have similar models but can't sell them at 1/2 or even 1/4 some of the prices we saw this week end.

I love it when dealers mention some results at an auction to justify their prices. I always tell them, so how come you can't sell them? Or why don't you sell them at the next auction... Reality bites here. Market price is fixed by the market, not by what a couple of guys firing up the auctions.

Last point, many of the the dealers that are paying those prices, have often a big stock, so in a way, its kind of adding value to their stock. Its everyone's interest to have prices going up. Even the collectors and the new players to that game, they love seeing prices going higher every time, and trying to guess and bet on the ones that will beat records next time. Also the fact that prices are high is giving all that some kind of value... and will make someone somewhere desire it and pay even more for it.

I'd say, you are selling dreams, how to put a price tag on a dream? Its as high as someone is ready to pay to see his dream come true... Food for thoughts
