Rolex

A fellow WPS purist asked me how the Speedmaster Moonshine stacks up to a comparable Daytona in color, quality, extra so I decided to take some photos and let others decides for themselves... I posted this in the Omega forum but wanted to be fair which is...  

Additionally for every one of these "special" Speedmasters, how many more of these gold Daytonas will you see? Plenty more ;-)

But, i must say i would pick the moonshine as well for most of the reason you mention and just the overall emotion it triggers for me when i look at it.

The Moonshine. I’m not sure I could rock either which tells you how much cooler Justin (or Yokozuna) is than me. I do wish Speedmaster had greater water resistance in general but still no question. Omega is gaining on Rolex...I’m sure it’s probably a matt... 

But here the moonshine is more elegant. I need to see it on Yokozuna first, to really be sure!

Without a shadow of doubt, my choice would be the Speedmaster. Reasons why are several technical, of which many have been mentioned already and esthetic reasons. Furthermore I’m probably one of the very few who think the Daytona is not a desirable watch. ... 

I find its design to be more visually pleasing than the Daytona’s. Love the red bezel and the black hour markers set against the gold. Ano Nuevo

I still got love for the daytona though. It reminds me a bit of the question of which of your kids you love more. 😎 ...  

Omega. Honestly i can not say wrong words about the Daytona, because i do not wear it, so i have no reason to pick another watch as a favorite. But never saw a bad Omega, or a Omega that is not my cup of tea. And the Speedmaster Moonshine and the new Snoo...

Moonshine.

My understanding is that this Omega has a cam system instead of a column wheel controlled chronograph? I'll take the Daytona. It might not be the crazy popular choice, as I know Omegas are in vogue, but it's the qualitative one!

The caliber 3861 is just as, if not better than, the Rolex caliber 4130 in almost every way. Re-read what I wrote and explain to me how you think the Daytona is better qualitatively unless you have owned both for an extended period of time and can say fro... 

The Gauss resistance, the longer service interval, the G-force resistance is all very interesting stuff! I definitely default to you since you have both to compare side by side. I'll have to wait until I own a Moonwatch before I can make an informed decis... 

The point of the exercise was to base your decision on the merits of the watches - looks, design, heritage, movement, technicity, etc... The flip lock buckle of the Rolex is great. I suggest you try on a Moonshine or the new 3861 Speedmaster as it has a s... 

By the way, the majority of my hand wound chronographs have colum wheels and like you I prefer them but the 3861, although cam actuated, is very smooth and SUPER accurate. I already did an on the wrist test of my Apollo 11 in SS and also my Moonshine. Bot... 

Admittedly, I'm a bigger fan of the Speedmaster than the Daytona, although I have both (in steel). In gold, for me the advantage for the Speedmaster is even greater. Kent

because I simply don't like the speedmaster design at all (kind of metal has got no relevance)

Also like the hue of the gold from pictures, is it distinct in person? It is very flattering on Yokozuna 🐈👍 🙂 Plus, the bracelet works really well in gold 👌 while I’m not a huge fan of it in steel 🙂

If Rolex did NOT have polished center links... and the ultimate scratch magnet bezel... would you feel the same? I ask because we --most of us--are obsessed with condition... At the end of the day... Rolex always trumps Omega... ALWAYS... So is it the scr... 

It is just a MORE special watch. If you don't really know the significance of the Moonshine and how it is a re-edition of the original from 1969 which was the 1st gold Speedmaster and how it was presented to Astronauts, world leaders, etc...then you might... 

And I later noted to myself that of course Omega trumps Rolex frequently... so no argument there... given some afterthought... I completely 'get' why you prefer the Omega in this contest... And I am 100% aware of the Moonshine historic importance... For m...

The heart says it, but the brain says the Moonshine is superior in many ways. Something rakish about a gold daytona conjures a weekend club ride out with the driving club.

But in this case, the Speedmaster easily wins this contest. It is a superior product in almost every aspect.
