Lange & Sohne Grande Lange One Luna Mundi Set. Some thoughts.

The Grande Lange One Luna Mundi came as a set of two watches, limited in 101 pieces, in 2003. One in white gold, the other in rose gold.

Both versions share the same case, which is 41, 9 mm big and 10, 4 mm high. A small difference between the 2 versions? The case side which is brushed on the white gold, while the rose gold case is totally polished. Why? I don't know... But one thing is sure, each of them has very elegant and well balanced proportions.

The dials are different, here. The white gold shows the moonphase in the northern hemisphere along with the Ursa Major Constellation, while the rose gold depicts the moonphase in the southern hemisphere, with the southern Cross, which explains that the movement of each of them has a different reference: Cal 901.7 for the Pink Gold one, Cal 901.8 for the White Gold one, both beating at 3 hertz and having a power reserve of 72 hours.

The backside, so typically Lange:

The moonphase is accurate to 122, 6 years. Nothing exceptional, here.

Another Lange thing is the grande date.

BUT, and this may be the most controversial detail on the " Luna Mundi " and former Grande Lange One versions, everything is overlapping, here: The hours and minutes with the small seconds, and the grande date, too.

Some will find this display weird and busy, while others will find it charming. To each his own.

In comparison, the more modern Grande Lange Moonphase:

Grande Lange1 Moon Phase 25 Years 25 pieces WG,  2019:

And the Grande Lange One Moonphase Lumen, in 2016:

Nonetheless, I think the Luna Mundi Set was and still is a very charming offer from the past, 22 years after its release.

What do you think?

Best,

Nicolas

Those are some truly stunning looking A. Lange & Sohne watches. My favourite of the four by a long way would be the Grand Lange 1 Moon Phase 25 years as everything just looks perfectly balanced and in harmony plus the white gold and blue just compliment each other so well. On the Grande Lange One Luna Mundi I fall int...

If it looked like that all the time I love it. Maybe it could just be a night watch? Marc

For me the dial is very charming.. It doesn't bother me at all, on the contrary Absolutely stunning. But they are a little bit big for my wrist. I prefer 38,5mm for a Lange 1.

38, 5 mm even better for me too.

Too cool The only thing I find too busy is the northern hemisphere one. Too much going on for me between 10 and 2. Whereas the southern hemisphere has much less going on in that portion of the dial. I think 42 mm is too large for this style of ALS. Striking exampl...

I find the Grand Lange 1 Moon phase more pleasing to my eyes, that dial layout is perfect.

A Lange & Sohne Langematik Perpetual Calendar. Some thoughts.

As a good friend let me play with his watch for some days, I could fully enjoy this Langematik Perpetual, take some photos and put my thoughts in order... The Langematik Perpetual is one of these early masterpieces from the German brand. But, curiously, it didn't receive the same warm welcome than some Lange & Sohne others icons, such as the Lange One, the Datograph, the 1815 Moon Phase Emil Lange, or the Langematik Anniversary. Curiously, as, in my opinion, it deserves much more interest and love.
