Grand Seiko will open a boutique on the Place Vendôme end of March

Avatar

It had been known for many months and the brand has just confirmed it by means of a press release: Grand Seiko will open "its first boutique in Europe" (as expressed in the press release) in a prestigious location previously occupied by Fred, at the number 7 on the Place Vendôme, right next to the Jaeger-Lecoultre boutique. Maybe Grand Seiko has already integrated the Brexit but to my knowledge this boutique will not be the first in Europe since a few weeks ago I had seen one in London in Burlington Arcade. ... ...Story

An event with Seiko in Paris

Avatar
foversta
I had the opprtunity to attend a few days ago an event organized by the Seiko France team in the Seiko boutique of Paris. We are very fortunate in France to have several Seiko boutiques in Paris or in other cities. They give the proof of the ambition of the Seiko Group in this country. The aim of the event was to attend a presentation of the assembly process of the Spring Drive movement done by a watchmaker coming from Japan: Takuya Nishinaka...Story

FIRSTS 1965 Japan’s first 150M Diver’s watch Japan’s first diver’s watch was the self-winding (shake to wind) 150M Diver. The launch of this model marked the beginning of Seiko’s pursuit for reliability and safety that was to come in future diver’s watch models. In 1966, the watch proved its reliability and capability in the 8th Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition. 1968 The Diver’s 300M, with the hi-beat caliber (10 vibrations per second) Increasing the number of vibrations in the balance, the Seiko hi-beat .....Story

A story of friendship - and a Seiko 6602-8040. Arigato Art-san!

A long, long time ago, four Purists met in Zagreb. Damjan, Padj, Art and yours truly. As so often at these events watches were discussed, bread was broken, online friendships cemented in real life. Art even showed us his trademarked photography approach and I am sure the waiters at a particular bar are still discussing that odd group, who kneeled before the sofas instead of sitting on them Art then topped this in a gesture truly worthy of a Purist and decided to send me a watch, because he felt it would fit .....Story

Deliberations on Dials, Part 2: Form vs Function

Avatar

This is the second in a series on Dials and the significant role they play in our watch appreciation. As shown in Deliberations on Dials, Part 1 (CLICK TO VIEW) , dials can act as the "Marketing Department" of the watch. They not only draw us in with their beauty, but can also reveal technical details about the watch. Although you might think of the dial as primarily cosmetic, the dial performs important functions, which I hope to unveil later in this series...Story

Overview of the Seiko Presage Series, Part 2 The Movements

Avatar

Welcome to part 2 of the Seiko Presage comparison INTRODUCTION This post has some minor technical information about the Presage movements. If you are looking for jewel counts and when the plastic date wheel finger was replaced with metal, this is the wrong article. You will have to search elsewhere on an even more nerdy Seiko repair site. As you read along, it won't take too keen of an eye to see that the accuracy is not claiming to be Grand Seiko quality...Story

Grammar of Design meets Hi-Beat - a review of the Grand Seiko 4520-8000

Last last year I determined for myself that high frequency watches were definitely one of my collecting topics - and after taking some time to compile a list of high frequency calibres (those beating at 36.000vph or above (here: the overview - and thanks to all who contributed)) I decided to jump into action and to enrich my collection in that direction. And when it comes to Hi-Beat vintage Grand Seikos, Japan is more or less the richest hunting ground. This meant an additional learning curve and much use ... ...Story

My first incoming for 2018: the mysterious Seiko Recraft SRPC15

Avatar

Seiko seems to have taken quite some in the watch world by surprise at Baselworld 2016, when they launched a renewed Presage line, spearheaded by the two limited edition chronographs with an enamel and Urushi dial respectively. MTF wrote an excellent review (here: for the full report) of both the watches and Seikos global ambitions at the time. The two watches have also found many a warm home with Purists - a roll call from a year ago yielded 18 (here: for the break down), with possibly more added since. .....Story
