Friends,

Today starts the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil!

none

What better excuse to have another look at some of the Girard-Perregaux Olimpico Chronographs?!

Let’s start where it ended…

1996: 20 years ago, the 1996 Summer Olympic Games were the first to be staged in a different year from the Winter Games.

The games took place in Atlanta, Georgia United States.

U.S.A. President Bill Clinton were reelected for his second term in the White House.

Who knows… Maybe he will spend another 8 years in that house…?!

none

The hottest movie on cinemas were Braveheart – Freedom!

none

Which by the way is the theme for this week’s WristScan thread.

So please, after you read this post, go over there and use your freedom!

But most importantly that year was the release of the Laureato Olimpico reference 8017!

Here is a great example with grey dial:

Love my blue dial version, but I find this grey dial very tempting!

A lot have changed over the last 20 years…

But the Laureato Olimpico still looks very modern!

I'm honestly not too bothered with the Olympics anymore but with Olimpicos it is a different story! The 8017 grey dial is drop-that-gorgeous, must be seen in real under light. CC

Indeed! Much better in real and in sunlight! Yes, the Olimpico I follow much closer than the Olympic! Best Blomman

Thx for very nice Hommage !.. My own fav of these Laureatos also is the blue dial.. ;)) But true, the timeless, unmistakeable design is an asset. Will be seeing the 2016 new Laureato soon @ our AD, yet the Vintages are real time-capsules. Cheers & HAGWE, hs

Almost bought it one time!!!! :/ Seller backed out last minute. I was really upset about it because he pulled out a day or two before the face to face deal

Welcome Jimmy! We try not to discuss prices here but do a search on the bay and/or other well known auctions sites and you will get a ball park where they are at. Best Blomman

My view of the Girard-Perregaux Laureato ref 81000 with Silver dial

Friends, As you all know Girard-Perregaux re-launched the Laureato this year! A Limited Edition of 225 pieces in Blue and 225 with Silver dial. Since they are very different in appearance I decided to make my report of the Laureato reference 81000 a two parted report. In this part I will try to cover the Silver dial version: Before I go into the actual watch I like to address one point: “the Genta design”. Many times you get the comments of similarities.
