Girard-Perregaux Deep Diver 9108 with Grey dial

Friends,

Earlier this year I showed you the Girard-Perregaux Deep Diver 9108 Blue dial.

I was hoping for a white Christmas, but it doesn’t look like it going to be any snow this year…

So I will have to settle for a grey Xmas!

The Girard-Perregaux Deep Diver 9108 with grey dial:

On steel bracelet this grey version get very monochrome and quite cool.

The only thing breaking the grey is the creamy patina of the luminous material (< 25 mc) and the inner black rotating bezel.

none

As many of the vintage Girard-Perregaux bracelets, the links are very soft and supple.

It follows your wrist without chafing.

But the bracelet is quite thick and heavy.

none

On the wrist it is a big Funky watch, looking very powerful in my opinion.

none

But you know me; I do prefer a matching leather strap!

none

none

Same cushion shaped case.

none

Same compressor crows, only the lower (time) crown signed.

none

The very cool engraving on the back (my avatar) the Deep Diver Trident!

none

Now it starts to get interesting, remember I mentioned that I saw several 9108 with cases dated 2-70?

Inside of this grey Deep Diver is also 2-70 (February 1970).

none

In the blue Deep Diver was the GP Caliber 461, here is the GP Caliber 460.

Two watches from the same year with different movements?

Strange you might think.

Yes, the 461 was only used in 1970 while the 460 was in use between 1970 and 1974.

But, both the 460 and 461 is based on the same Caliber FHF 905.

If I understand correctly the differences is in how the base plate is fixed (I may be wrong, my French is close to non-existing).

none

Another interesting thing is the reference number.

You remember that we discussed the two letters in the end, if they represented the dial and/or case version.

Well, both the blue and the grey belong to the 9108 FA which points to the batch theory.

Both also having cases from 2-70.

So, here they are, the two bulky sisters!

The grey 9108 and the blue 9108:

So, what will be the next step? Red?!

none

none

Or the black?

none

I don’t know…

Either way I wish you all a Merry Grey Christmas! Ho, ho, ho…

Best

A wonderful catch for Christmas.  I love the effect of what would normally be a bezel living inside the the crystal. A safer place for this indispensable aspect of the watch. Enjoy that beauty. Bill

Hands on the Girard-Perregaux Vintage 1945 Le Corbusier Concrete dial

Friends, In Paris I had the chance to get my hands on the new Girard-Perregaux Vintage 1945 Le Corbusier with Concrete dial. [Watch #1] In fact I got to see two of the fifty in this limited edition, and I am very happy to have seen both because each dial is unique! I will get back to that fact and compare the two, but first let’s have a look at the reasons for this watch. The watch is the 50 th anniversary of Le Corbusier’s passing (27 th of August 1965). Hence the limitation to 50 pieces.
