My view of the Girard-Perregaux Constant Escapement Black

Friends,

In 2013 Girard-Perregaux introduced the Constant Escapement in White Gold, 48 mm and in 2014, the Pink Gold, 48 mm.
Last year we saw the CE in 46 mm Titanium case.

This year GP follow up with a 46 mm version in Carbon & Titanium composite case!

The technical solution of having a silicon "butterfly", 14 microns thick, as escapement is just brilliant!
Placing it on the front of the watch give you the full view of the escapement mechanism for you to enjoy each "tick".

Of course the 2 mm smaller size helps making this watch feel smaller...
But also the fact of the black case make it look smaller!

The black sandblasted surface of te case gives minimum reflections which makes it "stealthy" and almost disappear.
Both the upper and lower part of the dial are black but in different shades, which gives a good contrast.

And with most parts also black, even the classic bridges, it gives full focus on the technical side of the Constant Escapement!
The time, barrels and gear train in silver, while the "butterfly" in purple.

On the back, we find the manual movement, Calibre GP09100-0004 with its 6 days power reserve also with black bridges, while the gears remain in silver for contrast.

none

The depth of the movement is easy to overlook, but if you angle the watch a bit you see all the different levels of bridges and gears!

none

Notice the classic "Arrow bridges" on the back as well.
A traditional design element that is kept, even if the technology is cutting edge.

On the wrist, as said, the 46 mm Constant Escapement in Carbon & Titanium composite looks and feels smaller then the Titanium 46 mm.

none

The "Stealthy" look makes if feel dangerous, even lethal!
Earlier I assigned the Bi-Axial Tourbillon to Jason Bourn, but if that one ever break, this should be his backup watch!

Personally I am not very pro black watches, but this one is, hands down, my absolutely favourite version of the Constant Escapement!
A dream watch!

And you? Which version makes you dream?

I absolutely love your wrist shot! At 46mm, it's just perfect. This has a "coolness" factor similar to the Greubel Forsey black Double Tourbillon Technique which is mindlblowing in it's own right. I wonder if anyone has a side side shot with a 48mm version. Thanks for the review and awesom...

Thank you, Babka! Indeed, the 46 mm is a great size! I didn't have the chance to make a side by side shot... Hopefully next time! Best Blomman

Let's be clear: If someone gifts me this Black CE, I would be more than happy. ;) If I buy it, then it will be the 2016 Titanium version. But I agree with you, there are few Black Watches I like, this one and the Ne(r)otourbillon are among them. This CE is very high in my wish list. Any idea of the retail? Best, my friend. Nicolas

Love you wristshots and review Superb review as always. I need to see this one in the flesh. So far, I tend towards the Titanium, but I may be convinced of the all black...

Girard-Perregaux Damier Gyromatic ref 7838

Friends, Yes, you read it right – Damier Gyromatic. The more well-known Damier ref 7427 with with only hour and minute hands, no second’s hand or date is with a manual movement (GP 25-29/GP26-09). The less known or seen cousin, the Damier ref 7838 has a Gyromatic movement inside! Let’s start from the beginning and have a look at the 7838: At first glance the two looks very similar. The obvious differences being the second’s hand and the date.
