SIHH 2019: Live shots and review of the Girard-Perregaux Laureato Skeleton Earth to Sky Edition

In 2016 Girard-Perregaux re-launched the Laureato as celebration of their 225 Year Anniversary.

In 2017 a new creation within the Laureato line, the Laureato Skeleton in Steel.

In 2018 the Laureato Skeleton Black Ceramic.

And now, 2019 the Laureato Skeleton Earth to Sky Edition!

The 2017 version in Steel is no stranger in this forum, we have one lucky owner among us!

The evolution brought us the Black Ceramic last year.

And yes, if I recall correctly, we have a lucky owner of that version also here in the forum!

Now this year we see the Laureato Skeleton Earth to Sky Edition!

The case is the dimensions as for the Black Ceramic, 42.00 mm in diameter and 10.93 mm thick.

The obvious difference being the dial colour.

The blue dial is following the Earth to Sky theme Girard-Perregaux choose as a theme for 2019.

A bit different blue compared with the other Laureato Absolute.

A deeper shade of blue, like the ocean or the sky…

The Steel hands and indexes give great visibility on this piece.

And the depth of the “dial” is enhanced by the suspended minute track.

The blue finish of the bridges works very well against the Steel gear train.

Gives a good contrast!

Inside is the automatic movement Calibre GP GP01800-1041.

Same as on the other versions.

On the wrist, this watch is very light!

Even on the larger side with it’s 42 mm and full bracelet, the weight is kept down by the ceramic.

none

And as all the Laureato’s, very comfortable on the wrist!

Now, which version would I prefer?

My personal taste is not very much for black cased watches…

Yes, there are some exceptions – like the Bi-Axial Tourbillon in Tantalum or the Neo Bridges…

The Laureato Skeleoton Earth to Sky Edition is a fantastic watch and I am sure there will be a lot of fans loving this one…

But I lost my heart to the Steel version two years ago…

And not even an ocean blue dial can change my mind.

Best

Thanks Blomman for the Novelty report I also prefer the steel, but I can see that the black ceramic will have its followers and the blued version of the skeleton parts is a nice touch. CC

Never wring with blue! :) As tight the colour blue is linked to GP, blue is never wrong! Best Blomman

There are a lot of fans for "black" cased watches... But I agree, its a trend we see fading... Best Blomman

Interesting and pretty cool for sure, but the steel remains the grail for me. Thanks for the report!

Friends, let’s continue with more detailed coverage of the novelties from SIHH 2019 from Girard-Perregaux. This time, we will look at the Girard-Perregaux Laureato Perpetual Calendar, Ref 81035. Ok, technically, this watch has not been released at SIHH but a few weeks earlier already, but I still consider it a 2019 novelty and as I have seen it first time at SIHH, I’ll review it here now. Watch enthusiasts familiar with GP will not be surprised by the asymmetrical layout of the Perpetual Calendar on this ...
