Thoughts about the Girard-Perregaux Laureato 42mm Ceramic

Friends,

Last week Girard-Perregaux launched a new member in the Laureato family, the Laureato 42mm Ceramic!

From the press shots it looks big and bold. Dark and dangerous.

My feelings very similar to my first reaction of the Neo-Bridges with DLC coating.

From being used to see the Neo-Tourbillon in Pink Gold, suddenly there was a dark version…

Same here, used to my steel version with blue dial, to suddenly see an all-black version makes you think.

none

Sizes-wise, I am not worried. In press shots a watch always looks bigger and the fact that all black watches wears smaller makes me believe this one will most likely look and feel similar to the Laureato Anniversary from last year, 41mm.

Weight will be less since the bracelet also is made of ceramic, question is how much lighter?

Comfort? Ceramic is a material which leads heat poorly, so I think this version may feel even more comfortable on the wrist.

Cool and light! People with metal allergies would most likely be able to wear this watch.

Another pro the ceramic brings is the scratch resistance. Ceramic have a very hard surface and is very difficult to scratch. Only risk is if you hit your watch really hard it could break, as ceramic is not holding up against hits as well as steel.

If we have a closer look at this new watch.

One thing I really love about the new Laureato is the case and how the case is curved downwards towards the bracelet.

The satin brushed surfaces “flowing” in waves and where they meet, a thin highly polished bevel follows their silhouette.

This line looks to be kept in the same way on this ceramic version.

Can only imagine how good it must look when the light catches this thin polished line sounded by light absorbing black satin brushed surfaces!

If we stay at this pic a moment, here it also clearly shows the bezel is brushed. Same as the Steel version of the Laureato 42mm.

On the Steel version my personal preference is for the polished bezel, like on the Anniversary version, but on this ceramic version I think it’s good not to make the bezel all shiny.

That would have made it look a bit more “blingy” or jewellery like.

Another interesting detail is the date window.

Same as on the steel version, the date wheel matches the dial but here we do have a frame.

none

It looks like the frame will be metal, putting a “silver frame” around the date.

Now remember this is a very magnified view, in reality it will be hard to see with the naked eye.

But, the silver frame will give enough contrast to make it easier to read the date.

I like it, I like it a lot!

And while we talk about contrast, I think the polished circle around the octagon bezel will give the wearer a very nice contrast and show the depth of the Laureato in a great way.

Same for the bracelet, the centre parts will most likely be more prominent.

This is a watch I am still awaiting to see live, but if it would look as good as the Anniversary, then I am very intrigued!

Best

That should ensure it stays fresh and like new for a long time. Probably not my preferred Laureato, but I think there are ma...

For GP.... ....i think this is a nice move. A ceramic in black can be very cool and I think a nice addition to the range.

Girard-Perregaux: long tradition of Large Date watches

Friends, We all know that Girard-Perregaux have some very nice watches with the Large Date complication in their current collection. For example, the 1966 Large Date Moon Phases: Or the Vintage 1945 XXL: GP has a very nice Large Date mechanism. Seamless, no bar or edge separating the two numbers. Lightning fast, date change is completed in under 5 milliseconds when triggered! (Me and CC once tried to capture the date change on video, but even on slow-motion it was too fast for the naked eye) But the Large ...
