I’m Flipper and hate it…

Unfortunately I fit into this category :-(

My funds are now limited when I decided 5 years ago to give up my super high stress, work all the time, great paying job to a work less, very little stress and lower paying job (its sooo worth it). Now… this is when the flipping started, in order for me to continue to enjoy and experience new timepieces that I have admired and want, I must” flip” :-(

I tell you what…it’s never an easy decision and always absolutely painful because I truly loved the watches that have been in my collection in the past, I miss them dearly but without their sacrifice I would not have the opportunity to learn and enjoy the ones I have now . I know the ones in my collection now will have to make the same sacrifice for a new and interesting pieces someday.

Hate to flip but it’s a necessary evil for me to keep my horology hobby interesting with limited funds.

I’m not even sure if “flip” is the right word for what I do because I really don’t make any money off my sales, I usually break even and in most cases loose money.

Does anyone here do or feel the same way I do?

Not quite the same, Drew, but I understand... ...being in a similar position. However, I have kind of arrived at a place where I only want to have several "lifetime" pieces, really special ones that I really have no intention of ever letting go unless very hard times come my way. I am really trying t...

A few things I want to say I often hear people criticize others making profits by selling watches. Some form of profit making is classified as "flipping" while others are called a variety of names. What I do not understand, though, is the mentality behind it. So long as "flipping" ...

I'm certainly not a flipper . . . that's because I like what I have too much to ever part with those pieces. But that also puts a real damper on my disposable funds for my toys. So, now I'm basically tied to what I already have, and any new pieces will be limited to the "lower priced" aff...

Noooooo, it is what I call on my day job ... ..."portfolio rebalance" and very natural thing to do. Most people have "budget" or limit, hard or soft, and in order to stay happy, it is natural to rebalance it. I do it, too. But as other poster says, I do it less and less frequently as I am finding an...

you are not a flipper IMVHO as far as how I define a flipper. For me a flipper is someone who purchases a watch ( and not necessarily liking watch ) and for the purpose of immediately reselling it for a quick profit . Watch with all stickers intact, not worn or worn 'sparingly'...

Drew, pros and cons to everything. What's good if you dying from work with many watches? And you're not a flipper. Flipper would be those who just buy in hoping to earn a quick buck just like wall street. Life is more than work and $, and perhaps watches..... cheers PAt

I would certainly call The guy selling the PAM 360 on eBay with 43 bids..12 hours left...at 23 thousand a "Flipper".... That fits the meaning IMO...Best of luck to you as you re-arrange your collection..I am in the process of doing the same.

Courageous confession, Drew, BUT ... Are you " gathering " all these conditions? 1/ Did you ever sell a double sealed watch ? 2/ Did you ever sell a watch in the unique purpose to make a ( huge ? ) benefit? 3/ Did you ever buy a watch to sell it? If the answer to these 3 questions is YES, so...
