SIHH 2019: Some thoughts on the Jaeger Lecoultre Master Ultra Thin Date.

The Master Ultra Thin Date first came in the catalogue in 2014, in rose gold, then, in 2015, in steel.

This watch had a 40 mm case, 7, 45 mm high.

We also had the Champagne dial, unveiled in 2016.

This year, Jaeger Lecoultre revisits this model.

With a smaller case, first, which is now 39 mm, a tad thicker: 7, 8 mm.

And with a redesigned dial, especially the indices, longer, and with a more subtle sunburst dial.

It is available in steel,

And in rose gold.

The movement is the same than the one which is housed in the former versions, the Cal 899, with a bit short power reserve of 38 hours and 28, 800 vibrations per hour.

My feelings? Jaeger Lecoultre gave some extra elegance and refinement to this watch. I regret the mention " automatique " once again, which I find totally unnecessary, and the date, as most often...

Looking forward to reading your comments and thoughts,

Best,

Nicolas

This is what makes picking out a JLC so difficult for me, they offer so many incredible models. I can go into any other AD and pick what I want in about 6 seconds. IWC. Patek, Rolex, Breitling etc I know which I would get. Every time I think I've decided which JLC to get I change my mind, with limited funds I can't get them all. The MUT is definitely one of my choices. I may have as much trouble when it comes time t...

I understand, Thomas. I too have a list which is longer when it comes to JLC than when it comes to many other brands. With a Master Ultra Thin, you cannot go wrong. The simpler, the better, for me, when it comes to the Master Ultra Thin... Best, Nicolas

My question is... when JLC will update the movement with the new 70h power reserve? Best Yiannis

I asked... And the answer is that most probably, this improvement will see the light on more movements.

A lot of people ask this question but what does it bring? I really like my 8 days, but anything lower and without a power reserve indicator does not present much interest. I see it as the last fashion more than anything. I wind up my MUT everyday as I know I have to and I am fine with that. Best, É.

Actually, I see an interest to that improvement in some cases... For example, a perpetual calendar. For the rest, I agree with you.

Yes, true that for a calendar/moonphase it adds value. Another annoying thing about this so called improvement is that it is not technically complicated to do, so I don't see it of much interest. Best, É.

Nice watch, closer to the original MUT 34 i would say. No need for date, no need for Automatic, but why thicker? Best, É.

This year, Jaeger Lecoultre unveils two different Master Ultra Thin Tourbillon. One I already reviewed, the Enamel, which you can rediscover here: It is a 40 mm white gold case, with a guilloché blue enameled dial AND a sub dial dedicated to the date. The second Master Ultra Thin Tourbillon is in rose gold, with the same size, thinner, with a 10, 77 mm height, compared to the 12, 13 mm thickness of the white gold blue enameled version, which is due to the presence of the enamel dial. The two Master Ultra ...
