The 2012 Master Control, in both steel and rose gold versions:

The Cal 899:

For those who want to learn more about the Master Control, here is the link on the review I wrote and put on line in 2012:

You won't be disoriented, here, as the " new " Master Control only has, or should I say, enjoys, a new dial. A black one.

A black dial, and a white date on black, which is a nice detail for those who are not fans of the date, as it is more discrete, this way.

Let's remind that the date on the 2012 steel and rose gold versions are black on white.

Just a different dial, and a big change... The Master Control Black has a cool and powerful look, now. While the 2012 version was more understated.

The case is 39 mm big, and 8, 5 mm thick. Just like on the 2012 version.

Now, to tell you the truth, I find that the Master Case is starting to become a bit outdated. I am more and more convinced that JLC should use the MUT 39 or 40 mm case for the new Masters...

About the movement, the Cal 899, it has been submitted to the Master 1000 Hours Control specidications, which means that the tolerance is between - 1 to + 6 seconds per day.

Ok, let's now see some real pictures I could take at the Manufacture and at the SIHH.

And one picture of the see through case back:

Looking forward to read your comments and thoughts,

Best.

It looks different (and better) than the JLC picture on the post from last week. The white indices and date border really pop in your pictures. Possibly too much contrast? I would love to see this to see in the real for sure. By the way, the pics of the steel and gold are amazing! I'm sure I'll have more comments. And thank you avian ...

I took these pictures with a flash. Which can explain the strong contrast. In the real, I was not disturbed by this contrast. And at least, it helps to read time. I must say I am quite convinced by this one. Best, and thanks for your nice words, my friend. Nicolas

Very close to perfection, IMO. Nicolas, Thank you for posting these shots of the new Master Control. Black perfects this watch in my eye. The corresponding black date disc keeps the coherence intact, but I agree that the polished frame around the aperture may be too overt. That quibble...

I too think they have a very good watch, here. And a kind of Swan Song for the Master Case... I would not be surprised that JLC fusions the biggest MUT case with the Master Line... In fact, I do hope that! Best, Nicolas

Excellent! Thanks for sharing this, Nicolas. I am a big fan of the Master Control Date. It is the watch I often recommend to people who want to get their first really fine watch because it represents really great value for the money and provides the owner with a ter...

Indeed, the Master Control Date is better than a first entry watch, for JLC. It is a window display of what is JLC. Serious, accurate, sober. The Black will drive some people to pay interest to this model. I am quite convinced of that. Thanks for your feedback, Respo! Nicolas

Somehow interesting.. How small changes can have a major effect.. .. on overall impression and appeal. Personally, I absolutely love the black dialled versions; to me they stand for dark strength, but still balance and attraction. Also - if one takes the 2012 editions shown in the first pics, I have the feeling, that th...

There already was a Black HT, but for Aston. I have no doubt that... More Black Masters ( no puns, here. ;) ) may well come... Best, my dear friend. Nicolas

I love the MC date, but I wish JLC would do something along these lines in manual. less delicate than an ultra thin, maybe a bit sturdier.,..

Now that is very interesting. I am very found of manual movements. And I am pretty curious to know how many of us would like to see an affordable manual ( new ) movement... Or a bit less afforadable than the already exiting movements, such as the 849, for example. The marketing says that 90 % of the clients are more into...

Friends, We often talk about the complicated or the sports... But I would like to put a light on some of the core criterions of a modern wrist watch: Time, Date, Automatic, Water resistant, Shock resistant and Accuracy. This is what a big part of the watch buying customers wants. Yes, is this order, at least if you look at most of the big Manufactures and their main part of watch production each year.
