SIHH 2013: Montblanc Exotourbillon Chronograph

First shown as a prototype in 2010, the Institut Minerva de Recherch en Haute Horologerie has relaunched the Exotourbillon Chronograph this year.

Initially limited to a total of 17 pieces (8 rose gold, 8 white gold, 1 piece unique in platinum) this series was sold out soon after its 2010 launch.  See the wonderful report here

Now the Exotourbillon movement MB M-16.60 is being delivered again with a subtle resdesign of the dial.

Here is the previous 2010 version.

Notice the nice changes on the dial.  There is more balance with the MB logo moved out of the main time display.

Also the redesign of the 24 hour indicator and the minute counter for the 30 minute chronograph register.

I really was surprised at how well this looked on the wrist in 2010.  I suspect that these changes will make the "on-the-wrist" impression even more favorable.

If anyone has forgotten about the theoretical advantages of the Exo-tourbillon concept/layout, I would encourge them to click on the following post and review the information provided by Minerva.

Videos of Montblanc production testing

These were "behind the scene" videos recorded by Anthony DeMarco. 2% of all watches are randomly pulled out of production and tested in various manners for 500 hours to simulate 5 years of wear. The protocol is probably not as complete as the Qualite Fleurier's Chronofiable test or the JLC Master Control test but the testing is performed for ALL the models produced out of the Le Locle facility...not just the limited editions. I am sure results are available for testing > 500 hours...I hope so because 500 hours over 5 years is probably what a collector puts a Montblanc watch through when it is worn in rotation.
