A few more pics and videos of the Panerai Ceramica collection

I just wanted to share a few more pictures and videos of the Panerai Ceramica watches from the SIHH 2012 collection.   Panerai presented the  PAM 438 (Tuttonero) that features a black colored ceramic bracelet. The Panerai 441 (also known as the  Luminor 1950 3 Days GMT Automatic Ceramica) is very similar to the 438 and is basically a strap version of the Tuttonero.  Here's a picture of the two watches side by side:

And a short video of the PAM 441 and 438:

Both watches have the same dial of the PAM 359 with numeral hour markers and a black sandwich dial.  The color of the luminova is a soft beige color. But the PAM 441 and 438 has a GMT function indicated by the central blue arrow hand.

The 1950 style case is 44mm in diameter and is made of ceramic.  The movement is the Panerai P.9001 caliber with a water resistance rating of 100 meters.

At first glance, my initial impression is that the PAM 438 has a stealthy matte black look to it.  I know that there's been a few questions about the weight of the Tuttonero, but I thought it felt very hefty compared to the PAM 441 strap version.  It seemed to me that it was a stainless steel bracelet with a ceramic coating on top of it.

Another video, this one is the PAM 438 at various angles:

The bracelet clasp is brushed finish stainless steel.  I personally wished that Panerai could have paired the Tuttonero with some type of blackened deployant clasp.  It would have made a true all black watch.  But the two ears on the deployant were not very noticeable when worn on the wrist.

One little detail that I really liked on both the PAM 441 and 438 was the pin that attaches to the pivot point in the lever for crown protector is also blackened to match the overall black color scheme of the Ceramica line.

The 441 is essentially the same watch as the 438 but with a brown leather strap.  Of the two watches, I prefer the contrast of the 441 over the 438 because having the brown strap made it less monotone.

Here's a video of the PAM 441 Ceramica that shows the watch at different angles:

In the past, Panerai had used the subdial at 9 o'clock as a seconds indicator and day/night indicator (like on the PAM 270).  But in 2009 with the release of the P.9001 caliber Panerai kept the central primary and GMT hour hands and left off the day/night indicator function.  I like the look of this dial and never really cared for the am/pm indicator on the PAM 270.  For the PAM 233 I like the 'dot' indicator and it's one of my favorite Panerai's of all time.

The transparent caseback is a smoked/tinted sapphire crystal.

The crown, crown guard and lever are all blacked out

Slightly domed sapphire crystal on both the PAM 441 and 438:

The PAM 441 is paired with a blackened steel buckle.

I'm not sure of the the durability of the all ceramic bracelet of the PAM 438.  It looks cool, but I wonder how well it will hold up in the long term?  Will it eventually get a shiny finish to it after daily wear?  Not sure.   But of the two, I think I would pick the PAM 441.

Next up, I'll post some cool pics and video of the 3rd Ceramica, the PAM 396.

With the making of these new Panerai Ceramica models, I wonder about the PVD models and if Panerai will continue to release future watches with PVD/DLC coatings. Guess time will only tell! Cheers, Anthony

Nice photos and Videos ED209! This pair I didn't get a chance to handle at the Event but it sure looks sweet! I do believe that the PAM438 has a darkened movement and not smoked sapphire caseback with regular movement. great reporting guys!

PuristSPro Panerai NYC SIHH 2012 dinner event - Thu June 28, 2012: PART I

This past Thursday was our annual Panerai NYC dinner event showcasing the new SIHH 2012 collection. The Thursday before was our Beverly Hills event (link to BH write-up is here: http://panerai.watchprosite.com/show-forumpost/fi-717/pi-5365838/ti-799488/s-0/ ). It's going to be tough day as my flight from LAX to JFK is 6:30am in the morning so I have to wake up at 3:45am. No pain no gain! I had a chardonnay with my mixed nuts and dried fruit after takeoff, so I'm off to a good start in the morning.
