Panerai Pam 386 Luminor Marina Composite

kglaw

Just saw this and wanted to get your thoughs on this new model. Looks like Panerai is now using the Composite material on the Luminor case. I think Anthony was the first to predict that Panerai would be doing this.

Mods, please delete if I'm breaking some rules.

Some pics that I saw on the net and description.

Presenting the Pam 386.

With automatic movement Panerai P.9000, the box Panerai Luminor 1950 in Composite ® and the strict observance of the functional and aesthetic codes that make each one unique watch Panerai, the Luminor Marina Automatic Composite 1950 3 Days - 44 mm, to be officially presented sihha in 2011, is a classic example of the Panerai tradition of innovation and quality.

The box Luminor 1950 and the bridge protecting the crown are made of composite Panerai ®, a synthetic ceramic used in high watchmaking first by Officine Panerai, created by an electrochemical process involving the transformation of aluminum. The Composite Panerai ® is much lighter than ceramic, but at the same time is much harder and stronger than steel and, moreover, is dull and looks very different.

The big brown dial, unadorned, has sandwich construction consisting of two superimposed layers containing the Super-LumiNova ® forming the numerals and hour markers fluorescent. He has the classic Panerai style, reflected by its thickness and high readability even in the dark. The display is protected by a sapphire crystal with smoked antirrefletivo treatment.

The automatic movement P.9000, which can be seen through the sapphire crystal back, is 13 ¾ lines in diameter and 7.9 mm thick, and was entirely designed and built in the manufacture Officine Panerai in Neuchâtel. This gauge has a date function, small seconds at 9 o'clock and a power reserve of three days, guaranteed for two mainspring barrels connected in series with an oscillating weight that loads the springs in both directions.

The Luminor Marina Automatic Composite 1950 3 Days - 44 mm is water resistant to 30 atm (300 meters) and comes with an aged brown leather strap with a clasp of the same color composite. Identified by the reference PAM00386, it is part of the Contemporary collection.

It does looks good... This brown colored composite material absolutely fits in Panerai watches perfectly.. If one think I would like to change on this watch is the date... If it doesn't have a date function this could be what I'm looking for next year... Best, Sam

I like the new 386! Looks great! Hmmm, I am noticing that this watch doesn't have the push button strap bar release as other models do. Instead, it's got screwed spring bars. Interesting detail, I guess the Composite case may not be easy to work with to put the strap bar rel...

Your wish have been granted PAM 375 www.panerai.com More or less, 386 in 47 mm without date and hand wound. BTW - loove the 386, and as it is reasonably priced, I joined the waiting´list at my AD, long list though ;-(

The Vintage 3646 Case: My “Golden Ratio” Theory

oyang
The proportions of the 3646 case are very pleasing to my eye, and I was wondering how it was designed. It is 47mm in diameter, but obviously not a square, because the sides taper in to the corners. Certainly the person who designed that case thought about how to make it esthetically appealing? Perhaps this was done by eyeball, but I would think that a designer would try to come up with a mathematical method to fashion the case. I started thinking about whether the “golden ratio” might have been applied.
