Survey of the Historiques Collection

Vacheron Constantin originally developed the Historiques collection in the early 1990’s during the mechanical watch renaissance. These watches drew on Vacheron Constantin’s rich heritage of design, bringing classic designs such as the 4072, 4178, and Cioccolatone to a new generation of watch collectors. The collection faded from the catalog as the brand developed a better defined product lines (eg Malte, Overseas, Patrimony Contemporaine), but was resurrected as its own collection in 2007 with the Chronometer Royal 1907, which celebrated the 100th anniversary of the original Chronometer Royal pocket watch. Live pics of the New York Boutique Exclusive Watches

I had the privilege this past May of joining other members of the watch press in Geneva to attend a presentation of the three special edition watches that Vacheron Constantin is creating for its New York Boutique. Now that the boutique is officially open for business, I can finally share these extraordinary timepieces with you. All three watches are variations on existing references in current production. It is no surprise that Vacheron Constantin would take the Historiques American 1921 as one model for the New York boutique, as the original design was created for the American market. The 1921 is one of the most sought after watches being made today, with its whimsical tilting of the dial from the usual orientation, exclusive manufacture movement, and ......">Story

Quick-Look Review: Vacheron Constantin's Patrimony Traditionnelle, Ref 82172

I’ve been giving a lot of attention to the manual winding Patrimony Contemporaine, reference 81180, of late. Its companion in the Patrimony Traditionnelle family of watches has been feeling jealous and has asked for some attention. I am more than happy to oblige! Vacheron Constantin introduced the Patrimony Traditionnelle family in 2007 with three models. The statement watch that launched the line was the grand complication Patrimony Traditionnelle “Calibre 2755,” which combines the tourbillon, perpetual calendar, and minute repeater complications in one extraordinary and elegant watch...">Story

Vacheron Constantin Dinner in Paris, a superb moment!

Avatar

My friends, we had an unqiue experience in Paris last night. Vacheron Constantin organized, as in the last 6 or 7 years, a superb dinner. Our Hosts, the VC Team, and specially Yves Di Martino and Alex, chose one of the most prestigious Parisian Restaurant, " La Tour D'Argent ". Alex and Yves explained us that the choice was not a coincidence, as VC and La Tour D'Argent had both in common to be an Institution, from 1582 for this Restaurant, and from, of course, 1755, for their Manufacture...">Story

Vacheron Constantin introduced the Overseas Dual Time (reference 47450) in 2005 along with the redesigned Overseas (reference 47040) and Overseas Chronograph (reference 47150). Initial production of the Overseas Dual Time included stainless steel models with silver or black textured dials, a yellow gold model with a silver textured dial, and a flamboyant limited edition (250 pieces) rose gold model with a chocolate brown dial. All photos above by Alberto Schileo The yellow gold and rose gold models are now available with crocodile and rubber straps, and a design for women incorporates diamonds on the bezel: In 2009 Vacheron Constantin extended the Overseas line by introducing a bi-metal Overseas and Overseas Chronograph featuring a stainless steel case ......">Story

My Survey of Vacheron Constantin's SIHH 2010 Novelties

Avatar
WHL
I had the pleasure to see most of the novelties released by Vacheron Constantin at SIHH this past January when I was in Geneva recently. Below are photos of what I saw along with my impressions of the watches. One of the main themes this year from the brand was the extension of the Patrimony line with new metals and dials. Previously one could have (and still can have) a Patrimony Contemporaine (Ref 81180) in platinum with an opaline silver dial...">Story

Press Release Platinum, the purest, rarest and most enduring of metals for the new major complications by Vacheron Constantin The trend for 2010 is an exclusive and sophisticated grey Platinum, at the top of the hierarchy of precious metals, denotes the highest prestige in fine watchmaking. Extremely rare, it can be used to protect only watch movements of the most elaborate complexity. Vacheron Constantin thus gives full honour to this most precious of metals by choosing it to encase the very complicated movements of three models introduced in 2010. The Patrimony Traditionnelle "Calibre 2253" model in the Collection Excellence Platine is an outstanding timepiece and chief among the Grand Complication models presented by Vacheron Constantin at the SIHH ......">Story

Watch Review: Quai de l'Ile

Avatar
WHL
Quai de l’Ile Vacheron Constantin and the New Watchmaking From Mechanical Renaissance to New Expressions Vacheron Constantin is considered a Big Three watch manufacturer, along with Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet, based on its strong history of making the finest pocket and wrist watches of the twentieth Century. From the 1940’s through the 1960’s, Vacheron Constantin was at the pinnacle of making classical wristwatches. The quartz crisis, however, knocked the Swiss manufacturers off their game, and watch design entered a dark age, not to emerge for two decades. The renaissance of the mechanical watch in the 1990’s helped to lift Vacheron Constantin out of its torpor...">Story
